You’ve Been Defended – Episode 344
Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok.
Ko Yun-ho, the second son of Ko Sang-jun, currently manages Wooshin Securities, while the third son, Ko Yun-seok, is in charge of Wooshin Card.
They are also the key players in the sibling rivalry that triggered the rapid launch plan for Myunghwa Pharmaceutical’s Antrozol Alpha.
In terms of personality, they aren’t as reckless as Ko Yun-seong, but compared to their older brother Ko Yun-soo, neither of them possesses a particularly calm demeanor.
However, they weren’t so foolish as to be completely clueless.
In my previous life, they lived in the shadow of their older brother, so I assumed they harbored some kind of inferiority complex.
But why did they kill the butler?
Since I had never suspected them even once, and they hadn’t leaked any clues, I even doubted the truthfulness of the letters floating above the gallery employee’s head for a moment.
I would have found it more believable if Ko Sang-jun or Yun Seong-hee had been responsible.
-……Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok?
-Your sons…… Ah, what should I call them?
-Just call them whatever you’re comfortable with. Why would Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok kill the butler? I thought that annex was only used by Ko Sang-jun and my mother.
-That’s right. But I don’t know. They suddenly came to that house that day.
-Then were you at the scene too?
-I wasn’t at the scene. I was…… hiding and watching.
-You just watched while your girlfriend was being murdered?
Kim Chan-young frowned as he asked.
Then the gallery employee sighed and ran a hand roughly through his hair.
-I know. I know I was a coward……. But I couldn’t step forward. I never thought Sang-eun would die then. If I had known she would die, I would have stepped forward sooner…….
The gallery employee said that, covering his head with both arms and sobbing.
The interesting thing was the letters floating above his head.
[Lie]
-If I had known she would go like that, if I had known it would be Sang-eun’s last moment…… I would have rushed in somehow, really somehow…….
[Lie]
-Sniff, I just……. I just thought they would only raise their voices at Sang-eun, and that…… that’s how it would be. I just thought it would be more dangerous if my relationship with Sang-eun, who was the butler of that house, was exposed……. I didn’t know it would turn out like that, really…….
[Lie]
The acting was superb.
If Tae-shik had seen it, he would have thought someone had appeared who could rival his own skills.
The man continued to sob with his face buried, and Kim Chan-young stared at him blankly.
He seemed to be racking his brains.
Whether he could believe this man’s words, and why Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok had to kill the butler.
-You said you had evidence?
-Yes.
-Can you show me?
The man pretended to wipe away tears and took out his cell phone from his pocket.
It was difficult to see the phone screen from this distance, but Kim Chan-young seemed convinced after looking at the screen.
-I think this is enough to be admitted as evidence in court.
-I think so too. But I need to check the details.
-With this, Madam [referring to Kim Chan-young’s mother] can clear her name. And I think we can identify Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok as the culprits with this evidence.
-I think so too. But just looking at the photos, it’s hard to get a clear picture of what the situation was like then. If you were hiding and watching the situation, can you tell me what happened?
Even though Kim Chan-young accurately confirmed that Ko Sang-jun and Yun Seong-hee’s sons were being blamed for his mother’s crime, he didn’t show much agitation.
Considering the way he had acted so far, he should have been agitated, but he seemed to be maintaining his composure even more in front of the gallery employee.
-I don’t really know either. I was with Sang-eun then, but I had to take a call, so I left for a moment to take the call.
-Looking at the picture, the location is the swimming pool in the garden. You were with her at the swimming pool?
-Yes. I was on the phone when I heard a loud noise, so I went there.
-And then Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok were there.
-So?
-So I hung up the phone and watched. Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok were yelling at Sang-eun.
-Slapping?
-……I don’t really know. When I heard the conversation, I was on the phone, and I just assumed one of the employees had come. So I didn’t focus on that, but I went there because I heard a loud noise……. When I heard the loud noise, Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok were swearing, pushing, and hitting Sang-eun.
-……And then?
-Sang-eun resisted, but then they grabbed Sang-eun by the hair and dragged her away…….
You can tell just by the fact that he kept watching even after they did that.
Even though he said she was his girlfriend, I don’t know what the butler was like, but the gallery employee didn’t seem to have much affection for her.
He is only thinking about making a fortune from what he witnessed.
-So I couldn’t step forward because I thought things would get bigger if I stepped forward, but I thought I should secure evidence, so I took pictures.
-Don’t you have a video?
-I didn’t have much battery left, so I only took pictures because I was afraid my phone would turn off while taking a video.
-Anyway, they assaulted her and even killed her?
-Actually, I don’t think the murder was intentional.
-Then?
-They were assaulting her, and in the process of struggling and running away, Sang-eun hit her head on a landscaping stone. And then she collapsed…….
-So she died?
-So the brothers were flustered, slapping Sang-eun on the cheek……. I thought they were going to move the body, so I ran away from the house.
Kim Chan-young laughed as if he was dumbfounded.
The gallery employee, who was watching Kim Chan-young’s reaction, carefully opened his mouth when he didn’t say anything for a while.
-I took the pictures myself and witnessed it, so I think there is enough evidence and witnesses. So, can you support my overseas immigration costs and settlement costs?
The gallery employee’s own self-interest seemed to be his primary concern.
His girlfriend’s death was just a surprising event to him, not a source of great sadness.
He didn’t even think about rushing in when his girlfriend was being attacked by Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok, and even the emotions he showed in front of Kim Chan-young were false.
I don’t know why Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok assaulted the butler, but he stood by even though he thought the brothers might kill her.
He is even thinking of using the evidence to immigrate overseas.
-How much do you think that cost will be?
-Actually, I want to go to Canada. I’ll get the permanent residency myself, so how about 400 million won [approximately $300,000 USD] for a house to live in there…… and stuff like that?
Kim Chan-young listened to him and seemed to be contemplating.
The gallery employee thought Kim Chan-young was showing a positive reaction, and anticipation began to fill his eyes.
-……But, I have a question.
Kim Chan-young opened his mouth, resting his arms on the table.
-I think you could have easily received that measly 400 million won if you had gone to Wooshin instead of us. Why didn’t you do that and come to us?
-……They’re the ones who killed my girlfriend, how can I stand to see the criminals just pay money and walk around alive and well?
[Lie]
I guess so.
Kim Chan-young didn’t seem convinced, but he answered readily.
But he must be thinking the same thing as me.
The reason why the gallery employee didn’t go to Wooshin is not because they were the criminals who killed his girlfriend.
He must have been afraid that if he went to Wooshin, he would be eliminated and the evidence would be taken away.
So he came to Kim Hwa-young, who wanted to clear her name more than anyone else, and thought that he could just run away overseas with Kim Hwa-young’s money.
-But.
The gallery employee looked around and asked.
-Why isn’t Madam here?
-My mom is out right now.
-Why is Madam out at this important moment when we find out who the real culprit is?
-Recently, it was revealed in the news that the trial is ongoing, so my mom is feeling a little down. I can listen and tell my mom, but there’s no need for her to listen to it raw here and be shocked. We don’t know who the culprit is, so we have to consider various possibilities.
-I guess so. Then are you going to discuss it with Madam and let me know what to do?
-I have to. If we say we’ll give you 400 million won, will you give us the evidence?
-Honestly, to be honest, if I just give you the evidence first, your son might just run away with it. Then I’ll just lose the evidence and not get 400 million won, and if Wooshin retaliates against me, I’ll have to suffer as a commoner.
-So?
-I was wondering if I could get some of the down payment first, prepare for immigration, and then give you the evidence.
-That won’t work.
-Why?
-How do we know you won’t run away with the money? Just like you’re worried that we’ll run away, wouldn’t we be worried that you’ll run away?
-That’s true. But aren’t you in a hurry?
-Don’t you know? There’s a lot of news about it now. Even if we proceed as is, there’s a high probability that my mom will be acquitted because of lack of evidence. We’re not in such a hurry to give you a down payment, even if we take the risk of being scammed. Anyway, I just want my mom to be acquitted, and if my mom doesn’t get acquitted by the second trial, then I’ll be willing to trade with you.
Kim Chan-young made a bet.
The moment he knew that Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok were the culprits, Kim Chan-young must have been furious.
He would want to bring Ko Yun-ho and Ko Yun-seok to justice more than anyone else.
And the evidence that the gallery employee had was the only way to do that.
Nevertheless, Kim Chan-young was trying not to lose the initiative.
-Ha……. It’s complicated. Okay, I understand. It doesn’t seem like you’re in a hurry yet. I think I need to talk to Madam to get a grasp of the situation.
The gallery employee sighed annoyedly and tapped the table.
-Please talk and contact me. I’ll be waiting. But I can’t wait too long. I’m tired of living in hiding.
-Okay.
The gallery employee frowned as if he was dissatisfied and put on his helmet.
Kim Chan-young and the gallery employee left the room, and around the time I heard the sound of the front door opening and closing, I came out of the closet.
It was really absurd.
The culprit, the guy with the evidence, they’re all just trash.
