201. The Attacking Bastards – 1
As the charred figure slumped, Ian looked past the broken wall at the others.
“Eek.”
“You. You came with this guy, right? Who are you?”
“……Ian Brandon! This is a matter for the Forest of Warriors! Don’t interfere!”
“Who are you ordering around?”
-Swish!
Ian’s sword, drawn in an instant, sliced through the air.
At the same moment, the warrior who stepped forward fell, his head severed.
The Unit Leader was impressed.
“Ah. That’s a really enviable skill.”
Of course, the Unit Leader could imitate it similarly.
But not as accurately or sharply as Ian.
As he licked his lips, Ian looked at the remaining White Whale Clan members.
“If there are any more who want to attack, keep coming.”
“……Count Ian!! Why are you helping Blood Devil? Did you join hands with the Forest Keeper?!”
“I didn’t exactly join hands with him.”
“Then why are you interfering in the affairs of the Forest of Warriors?!”
As he shouted roughly, Ian smirked.
Then, he swung his sword into the air again, and another head fell.
“It’s my will. Why? And who attacked first to be saying such things.”
“Hiiiik!”
One by one.
The heads of the White Whale Clan members fell.
“If you come and cause trouble while others are eating, shouldn’t you be prepared to die?”
“Damn it!! Re, retreat!”
Eventually, the White Whale Clan members, giving up resistance, fled.
As Ian watched them go and raised his sword, Karin grabbed him.
“You don’t have to go that far, Count Ian. We’ll take care of it.”
Ian glanced at her and slid his sword back into its sheath.
Blanche and Wilde, watching this, were impressed.
Even in the Forest of Warriors, just like at the Academy, Ian was still ruthless.
“If you stay here long, those kinds of guys will keep sticking to you. And at this rate, half of the warriors in the Forest of Warriors will probably die.”
As the Unit Leader said a word, Ian smirked.
Seeing his smile, the Unit Leader scratched the back of his head and looked around.
The restaurant was a mess from the earlier explosion.
It was no longer possible to eat here in this state.
“Let’s go to the Sword Flower Unit. And Karin, can you stop the second attack?”
“Hmph. I can handle this much.”
“Really? Then do as you please.”
As the Unit Leader went out through the collapsed gap, Blanche and Wilde looked at Ian.
Receiving a look that implied, ‘What are you going to do?’, Ian immediately gestured.
“Don’t you think it’s better for you guys to leave now?”
“What about this matter?”
“No, aside from that, will Ian be okay alone?”
“I’m not participating in this training to investigate this. And I can move faster than you guys if I set my mind to it.”
“Hmm. If that’s the case, then it’s okay.”
“And……”
Ian held up his bracelet.
Tapping it, a light like a hologram appeared.
“Huh? What is it?”
“One of the test functions. Didn’t you read the manual?”
“Ah. Not yet.”
Nodding, he manipulated the hologram, and holograms appeared on Blanche and Wilde’s bracelets as well.
“Wow…… what is this again?”
“A long-distance communication function. It’s not fully improved yet, so long messages are difficult. But short messages are possible.”
“What’s the range?”
“Probably up to the Empire? If a similar situation occurs while you’re going down, press that. I’ll go there.”
“Nice.”
“It would be good if the other kids knew too.”
As Wilde looked at the bracelet with fascination, Ian smirked.
“It’s probably been delivered to all the kids.”
“Really? Then that’s a relief. Okay, I got it. Ah. But learning a technique from the Unit Leader……”
“I’ll tell him. Learn it later at the Academy.”
“Should I? Hey. Anyway, take care of yourself.”
“And be careful of Mya-ne too.”
“Myaaaa~.”
As Mya-ne greeted them, Wilde stroked Mya-ne’s head.
Meanwhile, Blood Devil had also heard the story and prepared their farewells.
“It’s a shame to send you off like this.”
“We’ll probably meet again someday. Then, we’ll be going.”
Blanche and Wilde rode away on their horses.
Watching them go, Ian greeted Karin and then entered the Sword Flower Unit.
Inside the rather antique building, several masked men greeted Ian politely.
Accepting their greetings, he arrived where the Unit Leader was, and he had taken out several books.
“What are you doing?”
“I’m looking for records of monsters performing human sacrifices.”
“There won’t be any.”
“You never know. The Sword Flower Unit is a place where history and tradition live on. So……”
As Kirke, connected to the truth, reported the absence of records, Ian smiled bitterly.
If he doesn’t listen even when told, what can he say?
While the Unit Leader searched for records, Ian spent the night at the Sword Flower Unit.
* * *
The next morning, the Unit Leader frowned and got up.
“Damn it. I really didn’t expect there to be none.”
“I told you there wouldn’t be any.”
“How would you know without checking? Ugh. I need to wash up first.”
The disappointed Unit Leader went inside, and a moment later.
The door opened, and a masked man entered.
“Where did the Unit Leader go?”
“He went to wash up. What’s the matter?”
“Um…… this is a matter for the Sword Flower Unit……”
“If it’s something related to monsters, you can tell me.”
“There’s a village called Conwell about a day’s journey south of the Forest of Warriors.”
It’s a village that trades with the Forest of Warriors, and a hunter there found something strange.
“Monsters were going into a cave.”
What the hunter found were goblins.
A hobgoblin and several goblins, seemingly wanderers, were looking around and moving.
Seeing that, he wondered if something was up and tracked them, and they were entering a cave.
“If they were simply wandering monsters, it would be fine, but…… surprisingly, there were other guys guarding the surroundings in a similar way as they entered.”
Kobolds, monsters with dog heads, and a couple of trolls, along with Yaga [a type of ogre] and Orcs.
“Don’t be surprised. There were even Minotaurs and Ogres.”
“Really?”
“Yes. So the hunter returned immediately and told us, and we came to report right away.”
After the incident at Red City, the Sword Flower Unit was looking for traces of Rubellin.
Perhaps this was also related to that, so they reported quickly.
Hearing the words of the Sword Flower Unit’s swordsman, Ian got up.
“I should go take a look too.”
“It’s a matter for the Sword Flower Unit, though.”
“It’s fine.”
The door opened.
The swordsman hurriedly knelt as the Unit Leader came out.
“I greet the Unit Leader. That’s……”
“I heard the story. I and Ian will go take a look, so you guys stay here and wait.”
“Understood.”
The Unit Leader grabbed a sword hanging on the wall.
He threw the sword with Loki’s emblem to the middle-aged man and took another sword.
“The atmosphere in the inner keep is unusual right now. If necessary, use that to stop them.”
“Understood.”
As he went out, the Unit Leader said to Ian.
“Let’s go.”
Leaving the Forest of Warriors and heading south, they arrived at Conwell, where the Sword Flower Unit’s swordsmen were waiting.
Hearing the location from them, Ian and the Unit Leader headed straight for the cave.
One of the Sword Flower Unit’s swordsmen was guarding near the cave.
“Did they come out?”
“No, they haven’t.”
‘Kirke. Scout.’
‘Is there any malice?’
It’s a shame, but it can’t be helped.
Ian shrugged and got up.
“Let’s go.”
“Hmm.”
“Good luck.”
Receiving the greetings of the Sword Flower Unit’s swordsman, the two immediately went down into the cave.
Entering the cave with no light, Mya-ne cried as if feeling unpleasant.
“Myaaaa~!”
At that moment, light burst from Mya-ne’s body.
Seeing that, the Unit Leader was impressed.
“Mya-ne seems to have gotten stronger.”
“I’m feeding her well and raising her well in various ways.”
“At that level, she’d be at the master level……”
As the Unit Leader spoke, feeling the energy subtly emanating from Mya-ne.
Ian lightly raised his hand.
Something was moving.
“They’re coming.”
The Unit Leader already had his hand on the sword hilt.
As he said, a low vibration was heard.
And.
-Thwack!!
Something sharp was shot from the cave wall.
“It’s a Rock Snake!”
A snake-shaped monster that goes between the rocks.
Its body can change as freely as a slime, but it only lives in the crevices of rocks and attacks everything that approaches.
Recalling the records he had learned at the Academy, Ian grabbed the Rock Snake aiming for his neck.
-Sssss!!
The Rock Snake wasn’t alone.
From the crevices of the rocks in the cave, dozens of Rock Snakes were moving.
“Get out of the way, Ian.”
As Ian grabbed and crushed the Rock Snake, the Unit Leader grabbed his sword.
The moment his sword was imbued with aura, Ian shook his head and raised his sword.
-Clang!!
And as he flicked the sword’s surface with his finger, the Rock Snakes’ movements changed.
The Rock Snakes, which had been baring their teeth until just now, stopped attacking and returned to the rock crevices.
“What did you do?”
“Rock Snakes are simple monsters. As a result of research at the Academy, although they are snake-shaped, they should actually be seen as similar to slimes.”
In other words, they have no intelligence and only move by instinct, so they could be neutralized with a simple sonic attack.
“That’s amazing. Is this how you do it……”
The Unit Leader drew his sword and flicked the sword’s surface with his finger.
Perhaps because it wasn’t a difficult sonic technique?
The Unit Leader was able to imitate what Ian did with just a few tries.
“Nice. Those kinds of things are annoying to even cut. By the way, where did you learn these techniques?”
“I learned them here and there. Ah. There it is.”
Avoiding the Rock Snake’s traps and going down, a wide cavity was visible.
And at the end of that cavity was the entrance to the ruins, and in front of it were two trolls.
“This is crazy.”
The trolls were chewing on the corpses of demihumans.
Seeing that, the Unit Leader quickly stepped forward and chopped the trolls into pieces, then looked at the entrance of the ruins and said.
“Hey. Ian. That……”
Something was walking out of the entrance of the ruins.
Seeing that, Ian shook his head in disbelief.
What came out were monsters consisting of goblins, orcs, and trolls.
They were simple monsters, but there was a reason why Ian was dumbfounded.
“Monsters of different species formed a party?”
Helmets, shields, axes.
And orcs wearing crudely made armor.
And goblin swordsmen holding swords and shields.
Lastly.
“……Is that a Shaman, by any chance?”
“It seems so.”
The troll wearing crude clothes made of leather.
Was reverently holding a staff that seemed to be in the form of Rubellin’s emblem.
Seeing that, the Unit Leader said to Ian.
“Doesn’t that seem like something someone made?”
