29. Going Alone – 2
After my first encounter with a Guardian, I walked through the night and arrived in the desert region.
It was a harsh environment, with sand covering everything, but the walking itself wasn’t a problem.
I caught them and acquired mana.
But this time, I couldn’t raise my circle.
Even so, I wasn’t disappointed.
Conquering the Forgotten City had only just begun.
-Kuaaaa!
As I approached the Second Wall connected to the desert region, the number of Dimensional monsters increased compared to before.
Deadly Claws, which were hard to find even before the wave, were moving in packs.
Ian, noticing them tearing apart the corpses of explorers, turned his head slightly.
-Woo Woong!
A low vibration sound was heard in the distance, and light began to emanate from the wall.
The defense system of the Second Barrier had been activated.
Light flashed from the top of the barrier, and explosions echoed from within.
Nevertheless, those inside the wall were hitting their bodies against it, trying to break out, causing loud noises and vibrations to spread.
There were three options.
Ian, after hearing Kirke’s suggestion, scoffed.
“If there’s a door, we should use it.”
Walking at a leisurely pace, I arrived near the door, where, as Kirke had said, quite a few people were present.
“Be careful! A Sky Whale is going crazy inside!”
-Thump! Thump! Thump!
Something was hitting the door from the inside, trying to break through.
While the tense people pushed against the door, trying to hold it shut, a cloud of dust rose near a sand dune.
“It’s a Radpion swarm!” (Radpions are scorpion-like monsters).
Dozens of scorpions were rushing towards the door like mad.
-Thump! Thump! Thump!
At the same time, the sound of knocking on the door from inside grew louder.
Radpions.
And the entity inside the wall.
Two types of dangers were approaching them.
“Damn it! Defend the door! We’ll take care of the Radpions… Huh?! Hey! You there! Run away!”
The man leading the group noticed Ian heading towards the Radpion swarm alone and shouted urgently.
Ian appeared to be just a boy.
They had to get him to avoid it somehow.
That many Radpions were enemies that even the rescue team of the Paladad Earldom, one of the four families managing the Forgotten City, would have difficulty handling.
“Run away! Please run away! Damn it! Batin! Olvid! Go save that boy!”
As they desperately shouted, Ian looked at the approaching Radpion swarm and said.
“Quicksand, prepare.”
The sand kingdom where the entire world was a desert.
The technique of the Pharaoh, who was its ruler, was being showcased here for the first time.
-Kyaaaa!
-Krrr!
The rushing Radpions opened their large pincers to target Ian.
“Evacuate!! So…”
As they came within range, Ian drew his sword and plunged it straight into the sand.
-Krrr!
-Kyaaak! Kyaak!
With just that, the Radpions’ advance, which had been rushing in, stopped as if it were a lie.
They had been swept away by the suddenly appearing giant quicksand.
“What… what is it?”
The captain, who had been holding his weapon, was at a loss for words.
He knew about quicksand in the desert, a trap that swallowed everything.
But why would quicksand suddenly appear in this wide area?
It had appeared as soon as the sword was plunged, so it was clear that this phenomenon was caused by that boy.
The captain approached him, who had retrieved his sword, bowed cautiously, and spoke in a bewildered tone.
“Y-you’re amazing. Where are you from? Ah. I am Bowin Paladad. Um… are you perhaps from the South? You used s-something like sorcery just now. That’s something that’s often used in the South…”
“I’m Ian Brandon from Fredon Academy.”
“Ah… I see. By the way, there’s someone from the South among the instructors at Fredon Academy…”
“I’m a student.”
Not an instructor, but a student.
Even more flustered, he swallowed hard and asked even more cautiously.
“But why is a student here…”
“I came because I have something to do.”
“Ah. I see. I see. Uh. Yes.”
The Forgotten City during a wave is dangerous.
But what could he say to someone who had caught that many Radpions at once?
Just as he was trying to find something to say, the sound of knocking on the door from inside decreased.
“Hoo…”
He was finally relieved.
Relieved, he bowed to Ian.
“I sincerely thank you for your help. If you take this to the Paladad Earldom’s office, they will give you a reward there…”
“Are you going inside?”
“Yes? Ah. Yes. I’m trying to rescue the people who requested rescue inside…”
“I’m planning to go in too. Please open the door.”
“No, it’s dangerous… but it probably won’t be. Yes.”
After showing such a feat earlier, what could be dangerous?
Bowin looked at him and said politely.
“Um. Student. There’s something I’d like to ask of you.”
“You’re asking me to join the rescue of the people who requested rescue, right?”
“Yes.”
“I have something to do.”
Bowin was very disappointed at his refusal.
But he should be grateful just for the help he had received earlier.
If it weren’t for him, the door might have been breached while fighting the Radpion swarm.
“Captain! It’s open! There’s no Sky Whale!”
As they said, the door of the Second Barrier opened.
The rescue team members of the Paladad Earldom, who went inside, kept glancing at Ian, who followed behind.
“The level of the academy has increased tremendously.”
“The guy who used to brag about being from Fredon Academy pissed his pants while fighting two Radpions.”
“Was that sorcery just now?”
“But do they teach sorcery there?”
Everyone was analyzing what Ian had done earlier.
But they probably didn’t dare to ask him.
Ian waved his hand lightly at them, who were just whispering.
“Then I’ll see you again next time.”
As the rescue team members gave their greetings with embarrassed faces, Bowin stepped forward.
“Student. Please take this.”
He took out a piece of paper from his pocket.
Everyone who saw it was surprised.
“Captain. That’s…”
“It’s okay.”
“What is this?”
Ian also unfolded the paper and was surprised.
It was densely filled with a detailed map.
“If you have that, you won’t get lost inside the Second Wall. We come here often, so we know the way. It looks like it’s your first time.”
He figured it out well.
As Ian nodded, he gave a bitter smile.
“Looking at the tag around your neck, it seems you received it from the Biden family. Please come to us for your next application. We’ll issue you a high-level one right away.”
He bowed and gave his greetings politely once again.
After the rescue team members of the Paladad Earldom left, Ian looked at the map.
The words ‘Confidential’ were written at the end of the map.
“Still, he’s become human,” (Meaning he showed kindness).
“It certainly seems so.”
“Shaaa!”
Not long after passing through the door, Mya raised her fur and became alert.
Feeling the overflowing killing intent from here and there, Ian drew his sword and walked.
“Is there a need to do that?”
After walking a bit, the desert region ended and a plain appeared.
As six-legged horses with three horns rushed at him from there, Ian swung his sword and said.
“Calculate the shortest route to the First Barrier, including the Guardian locations.”
After passing through the plain, the inside was a ruined area.
It must have been quite a luxurious area.
But the house sites were only remnants, probably because they had suffered from Dimensional monsters or the ravages of time for a long time.
“Save me! Please save me!”
Shortly after Ian entered the ruined area, a desperate cry was heard.
But he ignored it.
As he passed by, the cry echoed throughout the alley.
“Save me! Save me! Save me!”
Then, a translucent liquid-form Dimensional monster appeared from the alley.
The liquid, containing several corpses that appeared to have drowned inside and various types of Dimensional monsters, even a Guardian that was still moving, pulsated and opened dozens of holes.
“Gyaaa~.”
“Save me~.”
“Krrr!”
-Weee!
It was a bizarre and terrifying monster.
As it blocked the way, Ian drew his sword.
At that moment, an even more terrible scream erupted from behind the Dimensional monster.
“Kuaaaa!”
“Damn it! Die! You monster!”
As the liquid-form Dimensional monster went towards the direction of the scream, Ian also headed that way.
‘What? What is that?’
A sturdy old man and a group of a dozen explorers were fighting.
The old man was three heads taller than Ian.
His arms and legs were as thick as logs, and his face was covered in a thick beard.
Fighting against quite a few enemies, he desperately smashed them, using swords, axes, helmets, and even corpses.
Among those fighting him, there were even Masters who drew Aura Blades and fought.
But the old man never used Aura even once.
Nevertheless, he was overwhelmingly dominating the enemies.
“I know.”
As Kirke judged, that old man was a strongman.
Strong enough to be judged as the strongest among those he had met since coming to this world.
While Ian and Kirke were judging, and Mya was yawning leisurely, the old man threw the last enemy towards the approaching Dimensional monster.
-Splash!
The Dimensional monster consumed him instantly.
The Dimensional monster turned its body and opened its mouth towards Ian.
Towards him.
-Chwaaa!
Ian swung his sword.
The Dimensional monster, which had been rippling like water, was destroyed in one blow.
Then, the things that had been inside came out.
“Cough! Cough!”
“Kaaak…”
The thrown man was luckily alive.
Ian threw him back to the old man and reached out to the Guardian.
Ian’s mana flowed into the Guardian’s complex magic formula and parts.
Using that, Kirke quickly neutralized the Guardian.
As the Guardian, which had taken out its arm to resist, slumped down, Ian tore off its armor and plundered its mana.
Meanwhile, the old man, who had crushed the heads of the Dimensional monster and the surviving man, bowed slightly as Ian turned his head.
“Hello.”
“Yes. Hello.”
“Seeing that you’re leaving the Dimensional monsters and only catching the Guardians… did you come to catch Guardians?”
“Yes.”
“Ah. I see. There are many Guardians near the watchtower, just a little further north from here.”
“Thank you for the advice.”
Ian, responding politely to his polite response, passed by the old man.
As he walked away, the old man turned his head several times to look at Ian walking away.
“Huh. What kind of monster created such a monster?”
Should I go and talk to him one more time?
Wouldn’t it be better to find out who he is, even if it’s just anyone?
While the old man was contemplating.
“There he is!”
“Damn old man! I’m going to kill you!”
Dozens of mercenaries appeared.
Those who were interested had left, and only the uninteresting ones had gathered.
The old man, sighing at those who showed killing intent towards him, looked around.
A Guardian whose core mana had been plundered and had stopped.
A rock.
A corpse.
And a few weapons left by the explorers from earlier.
This much would be enough.
He grabbed the leg of the Guardian that Ian had stopped earlier and tore it off, saying.
“The weapons are sufficient.”
At his confident response, the gathered attackers raised their auras and shouted.
“Die! Forest Keeper!”
Towards those who were rushing in.
The old man began to swing the weapon in his hand haphazardly.
