70.
The road to Death Falls was not easy.
“Silpenn!”
At my voice, Silpenn rushed forward fiercely.
Salamander was conjuring flames above Silpenn’s head.
The fiery wind grew stronger with Silpenn’s movements, burning the orcs’ flesh.
I avoided the orcs’ attacks by riding the flow of wind and earth.
‘I’ve only been with the spirits for half a day, but something definitely feels different.’
The power of the skills hadn’t noticeably increased, but there was definitely one thing I could feel.
‘The skills unfold smoothly.’
The mana flowing from the mana hole along the blood vessels was delivered to the spirits much faster, and the spirits unfolded their skills flexibly.
Kwaaaang-! Bang-! Bang-!
The orcs melted in the flames, while others were tightly bound by chains of wind, their bodies exploding.
“Your Highness, there are only a few left.”
I nodded at Riorden’s words.
The group of orcs we encountered since morning numbered about fifty, and fortunately, we were dealing with them without taking much damage.
Riorden swung his sword and said.
“It’s fortunate that you are here, Your Highness.”
“Me?”
“Yes. It’s not that our knights are unskilled… but being able to finish this without any damage is thanks to His Highness the Crown Prince.”
I shrugged at Riorden’s sincere words.
“Is that so?”
“I’ve felt it several times, but you are definitely more outstanding than other spiritists.”
Thanks to the title, the power of my skills was doubled, and I had contracts with spirits of all attributes, so naturally, I was bound to be a bit different from other spiritists.
Even if we were at the same level, my mana was already similar to that of a high-level spiritist, and my skill efficiency and power were far ahead.
‘Come to think of it, I made a contract with Silpenn, but I’m still stuck at Intermediate Spiritist Expert. Is it because my skill level is low?’
I didn’t give it much thought.
When my skills improved, the system would naturally let me know, so there was no reason to be impatient.
“Everything is taken care of.”
David approached and reported, and I said briefly.
“Clean up the site. If you gather the orc corpses, I’ll burn them.”
“Yes.”
Burning the orc corpses was to eliminate traces.
The vanguard of the orc army had already advanced towards the west, but there were still many orcs left in the Dark Forest.
‘It’ll be a headache if they catch our tail for no reason.’
It was important to get to Death Falls without fighting as much as possible.
‘There’s a dungeon near Death Falls. And the dungeon leads to the orc army’s main camp, and next to the main camp is Goran’s resurrection site.’
This was information I hadn’t told Riorden or David yet.
I couldn’t explain how I found out about the existence of the dungeon, so I was keeping it to myself for now.
‘I need to give them a warning appropriately.’
When we arrived at Death Falls, I planned to use the excuse of the orcs to be more cautious.
If Karen had passed by first, there was a high possibility that the dungeons would be destroyed, but it wouldn’t hurt to be careful.
‘Karen is a very big variable. But even if he’s here, rescuing Gale won’t change.’
Karen, who was destroying the empire, might be an enemy I had to eliminate, but I didn’t have a justification right now.
‘I can’t just kill him as soon as I meet him….’
Even if I had a justification, I had to be careful about killing someone.
In the meantime, the knights gathered all the orc corpses.
I told Phoenix and Salamander to burn the corpses, and soon the orc corpses burst into flames.
I instructed the spirits not to let the fire spread, and the knights and I took a short break.
‘It feels like my skill level is rising quite slowly.’
The battle with the orcs last time was quite large, and this time I killed at least twenty of the fifty orcs.
Even so, neither my character level nor my skill level increased.
It had been going well until now, but I felt like my growth had stopped, which was a bit embarrassing, but I calmed myself down.
“Let’s go.”
David conveyed my words to the knights.
There was still a long way to go to Death Falls.
And there was no guarantee that we wouldn’t encounter orcs again, so we hurried along the road.
The road was also very rough.
“The spirits….”
David trailed off, looking at the spirits who were still not returning to the spirit realm and gathering around me.
I smiled.
“It’s a kind of training.”
“Is keeping the spirits summoned a form of training?”
David asked as he led the way, as if he had been quite curious about it.
I nodded.
There was no reason to hide it.
“The longer spirits stay by a spiritist’s side, the stronger they become.”
I decided to tell Soris this fact as well.
He was also a spiritist.
‘This fact isn’t even in my mother’s book of spiritism… being able to talk to spirits is… really amazing.’
I was once again grateful for the fact that I could communicate and converse with spirits.
It was said that conversation was possible from high-level spirits, but being able to hear this kind of information meant that my affinity was high and that Silpenn acknowledged me.
I stroked Silpenn’s head for no reason.
Silpenn turned his body slightly.
‘I guess we’re not close enough yet? Or maybe he’s just shy.’
Silpenn was silent.

“Aren’t you going to leave?”
At Gale’s words, Karen replied in a cautious voice.
“The orcs’ movements have been strange lately. As the orcs left the Dark Forest on a large scale, I naturally thought the king would move too.”
Gale’s eyes narrowed.
His body had fully recovered.
Like Karen said, Gale could also feel that the orcs were leaving on a large scale.
Recently, the orcs had been bustling around, and the orcs who had been monitoring him were boasting that they had occupied the west and that the orc world was not far off.
“You are much stronger than me, but it’s impossible to break through the orcs while the king hasn’t left.”
Gale nodded.
‘I feel like he knows my level accurately….’
In fact, it wasn’t important to Gale how Karen knew his level.
He was on the verge of becoming a Sword Master, but he wasn’t one yet, and naturally, it was impossible to escape alone.
“Is it impossible to go out through the cave you used to go in and out of?”
The only thing left was to leave without the orcs knowing.
“If you disappear, the orcs will be on high alert. The cave doesn’t lead all the way outside the Dark Forest. It’s near Death Falls. If you don’t completely escape the Dark Forest, you’ll get caught.”
Gale nodded.
“I naturally thought the king would lead the vanguard… there’s someone behind the orc king. The being that absorbs your power is probably not simple.”
Karen’s voice grew stronger.
“I’ve felt it since I was wandering around the west, but it’s definitely a seed of evil.”
“A seed of evil?”
When Gale asked back, Karen said secretly.
“Yes. I don’t think it’s a demon… but maybe a subordinate. A seed of evil is enough to plunge the continent into disaster. He’s probably using the orcs to recover his power and then come out into the world.”
Karen firmly conveyed his will.
“Leaving is one thing, but your power is needed. We have to get rid of the seed of evil.”
Gale flinched.
He had only been thinking about escaping from this place.
But Karen wasn’t.
“If you escape like this, the orcs will capture all the people in the west and offer them to the seed of evil.”
“That’s….”
It was a problem he hadn’t even thought about.
He just thought that if he escaped and stopped the orcs, that would be enough, but he couldn’t imagine the problems that would arise due to his absence.
“Escaping is one thing, but we have to kill the seed of evil. The king is still here, but there are no sorcerers… and many orcs have left, so now is the chance.”
Even with Karen’s persuasion, Gale couldn’t answer easily.
“I’ll look for the seed of evil even if I have to do it alone. There’s already been a lot of damage in the west, and if the seed of evil regains all its power, innocent people will suffer even more.”
“I guess so….”
Karen revealed himself to Gale for the first time.
Until now, he had only been showing his face at the entrance of the cave, but he came directly to the place where Gale was trapped.
“Please help me.”
Gale stared blankly at Karen.
A handsome face, a solid physique, and… such clear eyes.
“You would be a great help. The continent’s people are already having a hard time. The emperor has no interest and is trying to start another war. But if the forces of evil even revive, who will save the continent’s people?”
Gale still couldn’t answer.
Aroon’s face flickered in his mind.
The evaluation competition came to mind, and Aroon’s situation, isolated between Ted and Chen, also crossed his mind.
He was exposed to the threat of assassination, and there had actually been assassination attempts.
Without him, he couldn’t guarantee Aroon’s safety.
“I have things to do.”
“I guessed you were an imperial knight. If you are really a knight… if you swore a knight’s oath, you shouldn’t turn a blind eye to this.”
Gale had nothing to say.
The first virtue of chivalry was loyalty.
“A knight is not only loyal to the emperor and the country. Chivalry also swears loyalty to the emperor, the country, and the people of the continent. Protecting the emperor, protecting the country, and furthermore, protecting the people of the continent is what a knight is.”
It was a story he had heard in a long time.

“We should arrive by tomorrow afternoon.”
I nodded at Riorden’s words.
“Fortunately, we only encountered orcs once… but from here on, it’s officially the second district of the Dark Forest.”
“Second district?”
Riorden answered my question.
“The Dark Forest is divided into three districts. The first district is where we’ve been so far. It’s what we call the outside. The second district is further inside, and the third district is the center of the Dark Forest.”
“It’s different, isn’t it?”
“Of course. The further inside you go, the more ferocious monsters live there. No one has ever entered the 3rd district. Ah, to be exact, they went in but never came out.”
Death Falls was inside the 2nd district.
“The orcs have almost occupied the second district, but some monsters are protecting their territory.”
I immediately realized the meaning of Riorden’s words.
“There are monsters that even the orcs couldn’t touch?”
“Yes. And Death Falls isn’t just a waterfall, is it?”
Death Falls was near.
I moved forward with tension and anticipation of meeting Karen, and with the determination to rescue Gale.
