Nangseon’s Romantic Fantasia – Episode 32
As the iceberg burst into flames, Samgui frowned at the display of power.
“Mixed things are so annoying.”
Muttering, he opened his mouth wide.
Soon, Samgui’s neck swelled, and a blood-red serpent sprang forth.
“No matter how pure the White Flame lineage, it won’t be able to stop this serpent that feeds on the lava of an active volcano!”
The red serpent wrapped itself around Samgui’s arm, nuzzling affectionately.
It was a spirit beast he commanded with his power.
Baekryeon was occupied with blocking Ryugokja [a powerful artifact or entity], and the other female immortals were fully engaged in maintaining the Illusion Formation.
-Oh, Ryukchohak [likely a powerful force or entity] is trying to devour the Illusion Formation, so they can’t help it. Besides, they are helping Sangbi-nim [an honorific title] with the power of the Illusion Formation. You must make a decision.
The strongest here was undoubtedly Samgui.
Moreover, Samgui was the Ghost King of Siphae [a region or organization in the story’s world].
The third king of ghosts.
In other words, antagonizing him meant antagonizing the Ghost Leaders of Siphae.
It was too powerful an enemy to risk fighting for a child he had only known for a month.
-Sangun!
Hwaran shouted.
It sounded like she was blaming him.
But she was just as anxious.
Sangun bit his lower lip.
He closed his eyes tightly and took a handful of weeds from his chest.
“What are you trying to do?”
Samgui asked without even looking at him.
Sangun swallowed hard and said calmly.
“It’s Gwangryeongcho [a type of poisonous herb]. They say it causes madness if dried, ground, and drunk. If we just burn it here and let them inhale the smoke, wouldn’t that be even more effective?”
“Is there even a need to go that far?”
His tone was clearly suspicious.
“The Taoists aren’t just here; they’re spread throughout Yeongnae Mountain. If we can save even a little bit of our strength, it’s better to conserve it.”
Samgui pondered for a moment and nodded as if it made sense.
Soon, Sangun held the Gwangryeongcho in his hand, dried it with a faint blue flame, and began to burn it, creating embers.
Mushroom-like smoke gathered around his head, and Sangun moved his lips, chanting a spell.
The smoke from the burning Gwangryeongcho swirled around him and suddenly rushed towards Samgui!
“Hmph, such a futile attempt.”
Samgui, wearing a scornful smile, tried to avoid the smoke.
But then.
Thud! Thud!
Green vines sprang up from under the ground, binding his feet.
It was Mansam, who had been hiding all along!
“What!”
A clear smile spread across Sangun’s lips, and the smoke of Gwangryeongcho moved as if alive, heading straight into his nose.
“You bastard!!”
Thud! Thud!
Samgui, tearing apart the vines, coughed and glared. But by then, Sangun’s figure had already disappeared.
Only a blue will-o’-the-wisp appeared and vanished in the spot where he had been.
And then.
Swish!
A red arm soaring into the sky and spurting red blood fell on Samgui’s face.
“Kkeuaaaaaaack!!”
* * *
Baekryeon’s face was contorted.
Ryugokja was a treasure she couldn’t handle.
Even with her fellow disciples strengthening the cold energy with the Illusion Formation.
It was then.
When the red thing spat out a serpent from its mouth, a neat-faced man next to it suddenly took out a sacred herb from his chest and burned it.
She was tense at their suspicious behavior, but it soon turned into doubt.
Because the red-eyed man suddenly attacked the red goblin-like thing.
“This bastard!!”
She didn’t know what it was, but it was a good thing.
If they fell apart, her chances of survival would naturally increase.
It was then.
The man’s movements suddenly blurred, leaving behind a blue flame and disappearing.
Swish!
One of the goblin’s arms soared, and blood splattered in the air.
“Kkeuaaaaaaack!!”
The goblin clutched its severed shoulder, and the man who appeared on the opposite side grinned, holding a black sword.
‘I’ve seen it somewhere….’
It was a huge sword.
The rings on the sword clanged, and old memories came to mind, but she soon dismissed them.
There were plenty of swords with such rings.
“Withdraw the Illusion Formation! Holding onto it won’t solve the situation! Just hand it over to Oh Ryukchohak!”
The man suddenly tells them to withdraw the Illusion Formation.
The female immortals distorted their faces.
They didn’t know whether they could trust him or not, and it seemed like the situation would worsen if they withdrew the Illusion Formation now.
“Do as I say! Or you’ll all die!”
“How can we trust you!”
“If you can’t trust me, you’ll all die! Do you want to be massacred by Samgui? He’s the Ghost King of Siphae, even if he lost an arm! Do you want to die like dogs!!”
At his firm attitude, Senior Sister Yeon clenched her fist. Turning to the side, she saw her junior sister with red eyes, tears welling up.
“Senior Sister…!”
“…Damn it.”
She couldn’t completely trust him, but killing Samgui was the priority.
“Let’s withdraw the Illusion Formation.”
“Yes!”
Whoosh.
The wind changed.
The Illusion Formation must have been withdrawn.
All that remained was a swirling gale that seemed to tear the flesh.
-Are you planning to use Oh Ryukchohak?
Even if the Ice Palace’s Illusion Formation was withdrawn, Oh Ryukchohak remained. A fierce gale swept around, creating a huge vortex.
“The difference in power is absolute, so shouldn’t we turn the tables?”
Sangun sighed softly and took out the Bumu Sword from Gongjeonggang [likely a storage space or dimension].
A Nine Ring Blade in one hand.
A Bumu Sword in the other.
-Sangun!
Hwaran shouted.
A chilling force exploded from behind him.
Kwagagagak!!
Ryugokja had flown behind him before he knew it. Sangun raised the Bumu Sword to block it, but it cracked.
The Bumu Sword wouldn’t work.
He immediately summoned the Nine Ring Blade.
Clang!
Sparks flew, and an ear-splitting metallic sound erupted.
He was pushed back, creating grooves in the ground, but he soon bounced Ryugokja away.
“Keuek….”
Only two beads the size of walnuts.
But the power they possessed was enormous.
It was no wonder the Taoists were being sliced apart. His grip was already torn and bloody.
If he had continued to block with the Bumu Sword, he would have had holes pierced through his body like the Taoists before him.
“To think you could block Ryugokja, made from the golden elixir of the non-immortals.”
The torn arm had already stopped bleeding and healed. Sangun gritted his teeth and infused the Nine Ring Blade with spirit energy.
Instantly, the nine rings shook.
Soon, a dark ghostly mist stirred, rising like cumulonimbus clouds.
‘Let’s do it, damn it!’
Now that it had come to this, it was right to use all the cards he had!
Kkiiiiiiaaaaaaak!
A chilling shriek echoed from the ghostly mist. Ghosts rushed out, scattering in all directions. Dozens, hundreds of ghosts took shape.
Swallowing hard, he took out the Flower Bird Brocade [likely a magical artifact].
He took out an unknown trinket and armed himself.
“To think a mere movie star has so many treasures!”
The ghostly mists that had sprung from the Nine Ring Blade were now thickly laid, covering all directions.
Sangun hid in the ghostly mist.
The Flower Bird Brocade originally spewed red flames. But when Sangun used it, the red flames turned blue.
Samgui sneered as he watched the Flower Bird Brocade, trailing a blue tail, fly towards him.
He subtly moved his hand and launched Ryugokja.
The two beads created a vortex.
Ryugokja rotated incessantly.
And a sharp wind pressure chased after it.
The ghostly mist split in half.
The evil spirits screamed and were torn apart.
‘Evil spirits are no match for him.’
Sangun narrowed his eyes.
He raised the Bumu Sword. Soon, a strange afterimage of the sword containing spirit energy flickered.
It was the Illusionary Phantom Step of the Bumu Sword.
As the illusion unfolded, the one Flower Bird Brocade suddenly turned into three.
One towards Ryugokja, the other two circling and flying towards Samgui in an instant.
“Hmm?”
He frowned as if something was strange.
Samgui suddenly raised his red spirit energy and opened his mouth wide.
Then, a large eyeball popped out of his mouth.
The eye in his mouth flashed emerald green and disappeared back into his mouth.
Samgui raised the corner of his lips.
Suddenly, the red serpent sprang out and swallowed the Flower Bird Brocade whole.
“Ha!”
Sangun exclaimed and chuckled in vain.
The green eye that popped out of his mouth seemed to have seen through the illusion.
“Did you think you could deceive me with such an illusion?”
Samgui, wearing a sneer, moved Ryugokja.
Ryugokja, passing through the Flower Bird Brocade created by the illusion, headed towards Sangun in an instant.
“!”
Gritting his teeth, he led the ghosts towards Ryugokja.
‘These bastards.’
But the ghosts didn’t move as he wanted. They seemed to be frightened by Ryugokja as well.
Angered, Sangun wrapped Bongak Cheonghwa [a type of flame or energy] around the Nine Ring Blade. The screams of the ghosts grew louder in the blazing blue flames.
Only then did the number of ghosts rushing towards Ryugokja quickly exceed a hundred.
The ghostly mist itself was wrapped around Ryugokja, creating a bizarre shape.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Ryugokja pierced through the ghosts in an instant, but its momentum gradually weakened.
It was then.
Samgui tore apart the rushing ghosts and rushed towards Sangun!
He rampaged with his one remaining arm, tearing apart the evil spirits.
The serpent wrapped around his body was also spewing fire at the evil spirits, charging forward.
“Not bad, not bad!”
Startled, he hid back into the mist, but Samgui didn’t stop.
He could see exactly where he was. Inevitably, Sangun sent a Spirit Power Talisman [a magical charm or artifact] from his chest.
The talisman containing Bongak Cheonghwa flew close to Samgui.
“As if that could do anything!”
He scoffed and tried to tear the talisman apart with his claws.
But then.
“Explode.”
Bang! The talisman emitted light, spewing blue flames like a dragon.
“Kteut!”
Samgui, who came out through the flames with his whole body, had blue flames clinging to him.
As he frowned, red spirit energy surged. He seemed to be trying to extinguish the blue flames with it.
“What is this…!”
But the blue flames didn’t extinguish, even as they seemed to die down. Samgui was flustered, as the power of the blue flames was higher than expected.
Soon, the red serpent sucked in the blue flames attached to Samgui’s body.
But even that serpent seemed to struggle to absorb Bongak Cheonghwa.
“Kuek, hurry!”
Samgui frowned and urged.
The serpent opened its mouth wide. But before it could absorb the blue flames remaining on one arm.
Whirr!
The serpent’s body was covered in blue flames.
“Ha!”
He burst into a vain laugh as if he was dumbfounded.
The serpent writhed in pain from the blue flames, and its body melted away into ashes.
“To burn a serpent that feeds on the lava of an active volcano? What kind of fire is this that has such divine power!”
Even in Samgui’s roar, Sangun shook the Nine Ring Blade in the ghostly mist.
[Kkiaaaaaaaa!]
The evil spirits, screaming, rushed out like crazy.
As they rushed in, Samgui’s face contorted. And he looked down at the blue flames burning his arm, gritted his teeth, and shouted.
“Don’t think you’ll die easily!”
He summoned Ryugokja and spat out a handful of blood.
-To spit out so much essence blood…. You must be careful.
-I know.
He was chanting spells and drawing out energy, which looked ominous.
The longer he dragged it out, the more disadvantageous it was for Sangun.
“Hoo-”
How did things get like this?
Sangun took a thin, long breath and bit his molars.
Thud.
He plunged the Nine Ring Blade into the ground and retrieved the ghosts again. Illusions and ghostly mists didn’t work on him.
There was no need to waste spirit energy on useless things.
The Flower Bird Brocade was swallowed and disappeared.
The Bumu Sword’s illusions didn’t work, and the Nine Ring Blade’s ghosts were not enough to damage him.
The only thing that worked was Bongak Cheonghwa.
Having organized his thoughts, Sangun unleashed Bongak Cheonghwa throughout his body. The Bongak Cheonghwa drawn from his inner core transformed into six blue birds, circling around him and flapping their wings.
The flames illuminated the surroundings in blue.
Soon, Bongak Cheonghwa was drawn to the Nine Ring Blade and clung to it.
He also seemed to be trying to end it, creating two flying swords from Ryugokja covered in blood. They pulsed as if resonating with each other, scattering a powerful energy.
Samgui and Sangun’s eyes met.
Sangun stepped on the ground.
Paang!
A sonic boom erupted, and he ran like an arrow.
Covered in blue flames, he looked like a streak of light.
