Nangseon Gi Hwan Dam – Part 2, Episode 135
“A Biseungseon [a type of flying ship]?”
Baekjeolsamu didn’t seem to recognize it, so Seonpyeong spoke up.
“If it’s a Biseungseon of that shape from this era, I know of one.”
A Biseungseon with a pattern quite different from that of the Hongye.
It must be the Gyewolseon, carrying the envoys from the Sugye who have so much to say.
“You guessed right!”
A loud voice came from above the Gyewolseon, and several beams of light descended.
There stood not only U-myeong, but also Tamlang, Yangmi, and many other Munmuseons [members of the Munmu Clan].
“I am U-myeong, an envoy from the Sugye. It is an honor to meet the renowned Baekyo Clan of the Hongye.”
As he greeted with a bow, Baekjeolsamu and Seonpyeong returned the greeting.
“I am Baekmu, an elder of the Baekyo Clan. The world calls me Baekjeolsamu.”
“I have no particular title, but I am Seonpyeong, second in line inheriting the blood of the Seon Palace. It is also my honor to meet the envoys of the Sugye.”
However.
“I am curious as to why the Sugye envoys have suddenly come to this place.”
At Seonpyeong’s question, U-myeong stepped forward to answer.
“We are looking for someone.”
“Looking for someone?”
“Yes, someone we were separated from due to certain circumstances, and whose whereabouts are unknown. They always try to handle everything alone, which makes their subordinates feel left out. We have come all the way here entirely to find them.”
Judging by the way they referred to this person, it must be a Susun [a high-ranking member of the Sugye] who came as the representative of the envoy group.
But it was puzzling why they were looking for such a person here.
“Haha, whoever they may be, they are truly blessed to have people who care for their superior so much. If it’s alright, may we know their name?”
“Of course. They are the representative of the envoys and hold the position of Munmungwanjang [Head of the Munmu Clan], with the surname Cheon and the given name Beomeo.”
“Well, this is quite fortunate, learning such a fine name. I cannot help but be grateful. Since we’ve met like this, how about having a cup of tea?”
At the invitation of the eloquent Seonpyeong, U-myeong gave a faint smile, but there was someone he needed to find first.
“Tea would be nice, but I would like to explain the reason for our urgent descent.”
Then, Baekjeolsamu, who had been silent, subtly tugged on the threads connected to the needles stuck all over Hwanmang’s body.
“Ugh!”
U-myeong’s brow furrowed.
“It seems you have some connection with Inseon.”
“Yes. It seems there is some misunderstanding, so wouldn’t it be better to talk it out first?”
He spoke kindly, but Baekjeolsamu’s expression remained unchanged.
The needles and threads binding Hwanmang were also silent, so one could guess her intentions without her saying a word.
“I don’t know what misunderstanding you’re talking about, but that man was tailing me. Are you saying that the actions of this person are the will of the Sugye, U Susun?”
“That is not the case.”
“If not, then what is it?”
Her attitude of asking as if curious left him speechless.
Should he say that Cheonbeom had become a Salseon [a being corrupted by dark energy], and the Baekyo Clan was chasing the Salseon, so they had no choice but to chase her?
If he answered that way, he might be able to save Hwanmang, but Cheonbeom and the Sugye would incur a great debt and disadvantage.
If it were revealed that it was a Susun from the Sugye who had turned the Hongye into a wasteland, who knew what compensation they would demand?
Cheonbeom already had many enemies in the Sugye, so it would be even more problematic if it were revealed.
‘But if I don’t reveal it, there’s no way to save Hwanmang.’
Just as he was about to give up, a young boy suddenly jumped out from among the Munmuseons.
“That person is a subordinate of the envoy representative, Munmungwanjang Cheonbeom, so if you kill him, you will inevitably be held accountable for harming someone from the Sugye.”
“A subordinate of the envoy representative? Is what that child saying true?”
U-myeong glanced at Cheongmyeong.
-What are you doing, Cheong Soseon [a lower-ranking member]?
-I have a plan. Please trust me and play along just once.
-Even if you are Gwanjang-eoreun’s [an honorific title] sworn brother, we are Susuns of the Sugye. If you harm Gwanjang-eoreun and the Sugye, you will have to give up your life, you know?
But Cheongmyeong seemed prepared, giving off a determined look.
U-myeong looked down at Cheongmyeong for a moment, then nodded, looking at Baekjeolsamu.
“That is correct.”
“Then you must explain why the subordinate of the envoy representative was chasing me.”
“I will explain that.”
Cheongmyeong stepped forward and said.
“That is due to the uniqueness of the Baekyo Clan.”
“Uniqueness? What do you mean?”
“The Baekyo Clan is a clan with a renowned lineage even in the Hongye, so naturally, the fame of Baekjeolsamu, the elder of the outstanding Baekyo Clan, has spread far and wide, even reaching our subordinate’s ears. Naturally, we believed that chasing after the Baekyo Clan would be the fastest way to find our master. It was just a small trick by insignificant beings.”
At the sudden flood of compliments, the corners of Baekjeolsamu’s lips twitched.
“But little boy, there is one cause and effect that doesn’t match in your words.”
“If you could tell me what that is, please.”
“You said that this subordinate did it to find your master. But why did you chase the Baekyo Clan? As you know, we are chasing a cruel person who is known as the Yamyeolsalseon, not chasing the envoy of the Sugye. So naturally, the cause and effect of your words don’t match. There is no connection, is there?”
That’s right.
Cheongmyeong’s words were somewhat reasonable, but crucially, there was a lack of connection.
In the matter of the subordinate finding their master, why would they chase after the Baekyo Clan?
It didn’t add up.
At her question, everyone’s gaze focused on Cheongmyeong.
They wondered if this little boy had come up with a flawed plan, or if he had another trick up his sleeve.
‘Depending on what comes out of your mouth, my actions will change, so you must say the right answer.’
If Cheongmyeong said that Cheonbeom was a Salseon, U-myeong was ready to kill him immediately.
If he said he was a Salseon, it would be betraying his sworn brother, and that would harm the envoy group and the Sugye, so even if he was his younger brother, he would have no choice but to kill him.
All U-myeong could do was hope that such a thing would not happen.
And then, Cheongmyeong’s mouth opened.
“There is a connection.”
“There is a connection, you say? How is there a connection? Surely, you’re not saying that the envoy representative is the Salseon we’re chasing.”
Baekjeolsamu’s smile, as she grinned, was beautiful but sharp.
It gave the impression of a flower petal dancing on a sword blade in the wind.
Cheongmyeong swallowed hard and said.
“Cheon Eoreusin [an honorific title], who represents the Sugye and is the master of our subordinate, has an extraordinary talent for disguising himself with armor.”
“So what if he does?”
“Baekjeolsamu, do you perhaps know that the Salseon is wearing black armor?”
Baekjeolsamu’s brow furrowed.
Soon, after pondering something, she frowned as if she couldn’t believe it.
The Salseon’s black armor.
There was no way she wouldn’t know.
One of the reasons why they hadn’t been able to stop the Salseon until now was because of the poisonous fog and chains that came out of that armor, wasn’t it?
“Then could it be….”
“Yes, our master Eoreusin is a person of great renown in the Sugye and possesses the demeanor of a Daehyeop [a great hero]. Therefore, when the Salseon appeared in Hyeonmuseong, he took the initiative to try to stop him, but….”
He was saying he had failed.
Come to think of it, he had heard that the Salseon first appeared in Hyeonmuseong.
Because of that, several officials and soldiers who had gone on a diplomatic mission from the Seon Palace were all killed, so the circumstances matched perfectly to say it was a lie.
“But he must still be resisting the Salseon without letting go of the thread of hope! I, Cheongmyeong, bet everything on it and believe that he will definitely do so, so please, Baekjeolsamu, help us!”
He knelt down and clasped his hands, causing her face to become awkward.
“Please help us!”
Following Cheongmyeong, all the Munmuseons around him knelt down and pleaded.
At this bizarre sight, not only Baekjeolsamu, but also the Baekyo Clan and Seonpyeong couldn’t hide their bewildered expressions.
They didn’t show any signs of getting up until their request was granted.
Baekjeolsamu sighed softly.
Pupupupuk!
“Keuk!”
She then pulled out the needles that had pierced Hwanmang’s body.
“This must also be fate, so I will accompany you. However, I cannot guarantee your lives, so if you become a hindrance in dealing with the Salseon, I will hold the Sugye responsible for that.”
“Of course.”
U-myeong thanked her for her kindness and ordered the Munmuseons to heal Hwanmang. Then, he looked at Cheongmyeong with a strange gaze, and the more he looked, the more a hollow laugh escaped him.
‘Is it because we shared a blood-sworn cup, or what….’
With a body that was only a Soseon.
At an age that was only a few years old, he faced the Baekyo Clan Elder, whom even Sangseons [higher-ranking members] feared.
Baekjeolsamu, without being intimidated at all.
Moreover, he had saved Hwanmang with just a few words, so how could he not be amazed?
It was as if he was looking at Munmungwanjang.
‘Even if they are sworn brothers, brothers are brothers, is that it?’
It was amazing, and even more amazing.
“They’re alike.”
It seemed that U-myeong wasn’t the only one who thought so. Tamlang also said that, looking at Cheongmyeong.
“To grill that white paper-like prey with a cunning tongue, it was like looking at a small Munmungwanjang.”
He grumbled that he was somehow annoyingly similar.
U-myeong just laughed and watched, then looked at the entrance to the underground cave.
‘Is he there?’
He had heard rumors that the ruins of a Seonin [an immortal being] had been discovered in the Black Wind Zone.
He didn’t know if it was true or not, but Munmungwanjang would be there.
He had heard that the Baekyo Clan had once sealed a Salseon before, so they had a secret technique to find those who had received the Salgeop [a dark energy affliction].
There would be no mistakes in their pursuit.
“We will go in. Those blinded by treasure may have already gone in first, so it may be dangerous. In the first place, the Salseon must be hiding here, so it would be strange if it were safe.”
“That may be the case, but if Baekjeolsamu of the Baekyo Clan is here, it will be fine. As I said before, this is also fate, so I will accompany you and I will take responsibility for it, so there is no need to worry.”
Seonpyeong said that and glanced back and forth between U-myeong and Tamlang.
Just as Tamlang was about to say something,
U-myeong interrupted him and answered.
“We are also small Munmungwanjang….”
“We will definitely go too. We’ve come all this way, we’d be called cowards if we didn’t go in. No matter how scary the Salseon is, we can’t abandon our superior.”
“Good, then let’s go in.”
As Seonpyeong made the atmosphere comfortable, U-myeong and Tamlang selected a few people to station here and followed them.
“I’ll go too!”
It was Yangmi.
She was assigned as a member to protect the Gyewolseon, but she didn’t seem to want to follow that.
U-myeong hesitated for a moment and then allowed it.
She was also someone who followed Munmungwanjang like a teacher, so there was no reason not to understand her heart.
-Please take care of Hyungnim [older brother/respected one].
Cheongmyeong had to take care of the injured Hwanmang, so this was as far as he could go. Anyway, he wouldn’t be of much help even if he went in.
U-myeong answered that he understood and followed Baekjeolsamu with the others.
Thus, the Baekyo Clan’s Susuns, Seonpyeong, and most of the Sugye envoy group headed towards the entrance leading to the underground.
