“……Pardon?” “It doesn’t seem like you’d ever take care of yourself if left alone, Yeonwoo.”
That was true. With my life turned upside down, day and night, meal times had become ambiguous. I wasn’t particularly attached to eating, so I often skipped meals when I felt lazy.
“Your body needs to be in good shape to do your job well.”
“Even so, this feels like too much…….”
“It’s better to manage things from now on. Don’t worry, Yeonwoo. I’ll take care of you.”
And so, I ended up enjoying an unexpected feast of nourishing food.
“How is it? Not bad, right?”
“……It’s delicious.”
You could tell at a glance that it was made with a master’s touch. It was impossible for it not to be delicious.
“Eat slowly, little by little. You can leave some.”
“Yes…….”
After the meal, Kwon Seonghyun smiled handsomely.
“How is it? Not bad, right? You need to develop the habit of eating regularly. Even then, there might be times when you can’t eat because the timing is off, so try to have regular meals as much as possible. It’s okay if you’re not used to it. I’ll keep taking care of you from now on.”
His beaming expression was incredibly radiant. It was an attractive sight that could captivate anyone, but it was different for Yeonwoo.
‘It feels a bit burdensome…… No, wait. If I think about it, this is an opportunity.’
It was Kwon Seonghyun, an undeniable top star in the industry. He had no scandals, and everyone who worked with him praised him. In fact, Yeonwoo had been constantly impressed by Kwon Seonghyun while filming the drama.
Physical fitness. This was an opportunity to receive management from a top actor who had debuted as a child and maintained his position at the top ever since.
It was a little, no, a lot burdensome, but…….
‘It definitely seems like it would be helpful.’
If I could gain as much recognition as Kwon Seonghyun, how far would that influence reach? And how much lifespan would I gain from that influence? Just imagining it was dizzying.
‘Yes. This is an opportunity I must seize.’
A golden opportunity that others would be jealous of. It would be a waste to miss the chance to see such a person’s self-management know-how right next to me.
“I understand.”
Yeonwoo’s worries were short-lived. Kwon Seonghyun smiled again, satisfied, when Yeonwoo answered.
“You’ve thought it through well.”
***
“For the time being, the manager position will be vacant again.”
Yeonwoo was puzzled by the passing remark.
“Is something wrong?”
I had heard from Kwon Seonghyun’s manager that they had hired a new manager a while ago.
-Seonghyun didn’t like it…… but his experience was good. His major and specs were…… I think they said they would assign him as a full-time manager after training, but now it’s vacant.
“Did you know that I was against the hiring?”
“I think I heard something like that.”
I had heard that the company executives were taken aback when he said he would take on the role himself. They couldn’t say anything because he was a direct member of the company, so they were suffering in silence…….
“That guy was a spy.”
“A spy…… what?”
“A very bad person. Hmm. Do you know A Entertainment?”
“A Entertainment…….”
I’ve heard of it. Just as I was about to recall it from my hazy memory.
[Isn’t that where Min Yerin is?] The child spirit sitting on Kwon Seonghyun’s head answered even faster.
Only then did I remember. Even Min Yerin, who had asked me to visit her agency since it had improved.
“Yes. That agency used to be known for being bad. I thought it was getting better recently…….”
He was smiling, but somehow that smile was a bit fierce.
“I was already keeping an eye on him because the aura he was wearing was so dirty and sticky. I caught him. He was trying to steal Yeonwoo’s information.”
“What kind of world is this…… It’s absurd.”
“Those are age-old tactics. It’s primitive, but it’s also a method that works well. They use the information they get to threaten families…… or sell their private lives. If they know a few reporters, it’s easy to spread rumors.”
“I thought that only happened in movies…….”
“Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction.”
Well, if you put it that way, Yeonwoo had nothing to say. Yeonwoo was the ultimate king of an unrealistic world, wasn’t he?
[Wow. A spy. That’s amazing. I didn’t know things like that existed…….]
The most amazing being in this place. The talking sparrow and ghost, the child spirit, said.
“Of course…… it’s not exactly because I want to take care of Yeonwoo myself.”
Why did I have the feeling that that was the answer?
But.
“Yes? You’re going to take care of me directly? Kwon Seonghyun?”
“Yes. I’m going to take a break for a while. From what I see, it seems like anyone else would be swayed by Yeonwoo. It seems better for me to move directly for the time being. I’ve also become more interested in something more interesting than acting…….”
The mumbling at the end was barely audible, but I definitely heard the part about taking a break. I was about to have a top star as my manager.
“Since you’ll have more work in the future, it’ll be helpful to learn how to manage your health and adjust your schedule flexibly. You’ll have a manager eventually…… but it’s more convenient for Yeonwoo to learn it directly. A manager is just a manager, not the person involved, so they can only watch from the sidelines and don’t know the exact situation.”
The manager only plays a supporting role. The main thing is the actor himself.
“Of course, if it’s okay with Yeonwoo, I can do all of that for you.”
He was doing well until he went off track.
“No. It’s okay. I can’t take up Kwon Seonghyun’s precious time like that.”
That guy is likely to be serious, but…….
‘If he says he’s going to retire…… then I’m doomed if I get another penalty.’
Just imagining it was terrifying. Kwon Seonghyun, who had been watching Yeonwoo cringe, took out a large shopping bag that had been placed next to the sofa.
[‘Drama Main OST [Original Sound Track] Production Proposal’?]
The child spirit, who had peeked out, read the words at the top first.
“Is this work?”
It looked thick and heavy.
Kwon Seonghyun smiled and said, “Yes. This is the reason why Yeonwoo needs to eat regularly and take care of himself.”
[Are you making an OST for Yeonwoo? Like the background music?] “Besides that, we’ve received quite a few offers. Everything from CFs [Commercial Films] to dramas, variety shows, and movies. Especially for movies, we’ve received a few good synopses, so I’ve narrowed them down.”
[Oh…… Actor, you really seemed like a manager just now!]
“Of course. To take care of Yeonwoo, this much is basic, right?”
For some reason, I was reminded of the nourishing feast I had just eaten.
“Are you saying I have to do all of that?”
Just looking at it, the number was considerable. That thick stack that even Kwon Seonghyun’s large hands couldn’t hold at once……
‘Was I tricked……!’ I felt a sense of crisis.
Fortunately, Kwon Seonghyun smiled and shook his head.
“Of course not. You’d need ten bodies to do all of this. Ah, but if there were ten Yeonwoos…… that would be quite…….”
He was doing well until he went off on a tangent.
“So, I can choose?”
“Ah, yes. I’ve narrowed it down to the ones that I think are good. I didn’t distinguish between genres or types because I didn’t know what you’d like.”
I was relieved that I didn’t have to do everything. Flap! Yeonwoo’s hand swept over the stack of papers. The OST at the top, along with various scripts and synopses, were neatly stacked underneath.
But as I looked through them, I noticed one thing in common.
‘Strangely, the roles in dramas and movies seem to be leaning towards one side?’
Was it because of the Grim Reaper role I played in Dear My Ghost? Somehow, most of the roles were cold and static images.
[Cold boss role…… a friend who coldly helps the protagonist…… a cold-hearted chaebol [conglomerate heir] 3rd generation…… How did our Yeonwoo become an ice man?] The child spirit, who had moved from Kwon Seonghyun’s head to Yeonwoo’s head, asked.
“I wonder…….”
There was no way Yeonwoo couldn’t feel what the child spirit felt. There were a few roles that were completely different, but it was safe to say that about 90 percent of them were similar images.
“It’s because most people don’t know much about Yeonwoo yet. The potential is definitely there, but they don’t want to take risks. So, they’re only presenting what they’ve confirmed.”
“But if that happens, won’t I keep getting these kinds of roles?”
“That’s right. That’s why a significant number of actors have fixed images.”
Actor A, the epitome of a macho and tough actor. Actor B, famous for his benevolent grandfather roles. Actor C, who always plays the role of stabbing people in the back, making people wonder ‘maybe?’ even when he appears in other works. There were plenty of examples to be found.
“It could be because they choose roles that are easy to play, but it’s also true that once an image is fixed, other roles don’t come in easily.”
“It seems like it would be boring to keep playing similar roles…….”
“I’m glad you said that, Yeonwoo.”
“Yes?” When I asked back at the sudden remark, I got the answer, “Having ambition is a good thing. It’s one of the driving forces that can make you a better actor.”
“But it’s not necessarily a bad thing. Building your own unique area that no one else can do can also be a way.”
Being an actor who represents a specific image is like saying that you will definitely take that role. It means becoming an irreplaceable item that no one can replace. You may not be able to encompass all images, but you can be considered the best in certain roles.
“Surprisingly, that’s not bad either. You create an image that people trust in that field. It’s also good for gathering core fans.”
Taking on similar roles and not taking on similar roles. Both have their pros and cons.
“I’ve narrowed it down to things that are good no matter what you choose, so would you like to pick one that you like?”
Kwon Seonghyun’s eye for talent was definitely outstanding. Except for the fact that the roles that came in were similar, the content itself was interesting without any flaws.
“If you were Kwon Seonghyun, what would you choose?”
“It would depend on which side you value more.”
“What do you mean?”
“If you need money, you should do a CF. If you want to increase your recognition, you should do a movie or drama. If you go into more detail…… If you want to build a variety of images, you should reject the 90 percent of roles that have come in now. But if you want to increase your recognition quickly, I recommend that.”
“What about the remaining 10 percent?”
“That’s something you have to look at in the long term.”
Kwon Seonghyun smoothly curved his eyes.
“It may be a little less noticeable than taking on similar roles, but it’s not bad if you think of it as a process of building up one by one.”
“You didn’t say what you would choose, though.”
“Oh. Did you notice?”
“Smiling like that won’t work on me.”
“I’ll have to try harder.”
“So, what would you choose?”
“If it were me…….”
Kwon Seonghyun’s long finger pointed to one place.
Yeonwoo was puzzled as she followed that finger. It was something Kwon Seonghyun had chosen that she had never expected.
“This is…… a romance, isn’t it?”
“That’s right. A romance movie. And it’s also an open-ended work that’s not a happy ending.”
A romance. And even an open ending. A combination that’s hard to see as a major in any way. But Kwon Seonghyun was confident.
“And it’s also a work that will give Yeonwoo a little more wings.”
