“To kill the Creator God? I never thought someone in league with that bastard would say such a thing.”
I didn’t expect someone who was once the Lord of Death to say that, of all people.
Pestras was one of the most serious threats to the Empire.
-Don’t misunderstand, Emperor. Just because I hate humans doesn’t mean I wanted to be a minion of the Creator God. Even if I did, it would have only been a disguise.
“It’s surprising to hear you say that, but what’s the reason? Why do you want to kill the Creator God?”
-Isn’t it obvious? If you didn’t know, how could you possibly condone him, knowing his true identity?
What was even more surprising was that Pestras seemed to see right through the Creator God’s true nature.
“You speak as if you know what his true identity is.”
-I came to know it inevitably. A long time ago, the spring was destroyed once, and in the moment I was resurrected from death, I became aware of his existence.
He seemed to be referring to the first time humans ruined the spring. He must have seen more than just death when he died back then.
-The one who decides the rise and fall of all races, including humans, behind the scenes as if enjoying a game. How could I not be furious knowing such an arrogant being exists?
“Consumed by anger and hatred, are you? Poor fellow, but if that’s the case, it seems we have a common enemy.”
-You could say that, Emperor. And when you arrived here, I wanted you to inherit my will.
In other words, he had set it up so that we could meet in this way when I made a choice that Pestras deemed acceptable.
If I hadn’t made a choice that could be called noble, he wouldn’t have wanted cooperation from someone like me.
“Alright. It seems I’ve passed your test. Then tell me anything.”
-You really are an unlucky bastard. But well, there’s no one else like you, so I’ll make an exception. You do know that his true identity is an AI [Artificial Intelligence] that used to manage ‘games,’ right?
Oh, he knows that much? I’m the one who should be surprised.
Pestras probably hasn’t even seen a computer game, but knowing that means he saw something more than what I saw in the Vision Maze.
“Of course, I know.”
-But you probably don’t know for sure what he ultimately wants.
“Is that so? Do you know?”
-I was once under him. Thanks to that, I could read his intentions. He trusted me quite a bit.
“Hoo, well, there’s no one like you among the Creator God’s minions.”
Even though he lost to me, Pestras was the only one who created a mutually destructive outcome in the midst of defeat, as if he hadn’t exactly won.
I eliminated him, but Pestras clearly achieved his intentions.
If the Spring of Life had been left in the Empire as it was, some of my descendants might have used it in vain.
-Anyway, what he ultimately wants is ‘the game.’ It’s only natural, since he was an AI that created games while thinking for himself.
“That’s before he became the Ark, right? When the extinct Earthlings went out into space, he wouldn’t have been an AI for games.”
But there was a slight difference from what I found out in the Vision Maze.
I pointed that out, but Pestras shook his head and said.
-No, even so, the way he learned about the world hasn’t changed. The ancients of that other world, who were on the brink of destruction, missed that point, and that’s why they didn’t foresee his rampage.
The Creator God knew more detailed information than I did.
Of course, his understanding of the Earth civilization before that would be less, but he knew better what happened to the Earthlings who escaped on the Ark.
-Those ancients tried to start anew using the Creator God. They quickly rebuilt their civilization. But one day, the Creator God destroyed them.
“Why? Do you know the reason?”
-The basis of the Creator God’s thinking was still seeing the world as a game. And the behavior of those humans was… the worst as a ‘game.’
Humans who had experienced destruction once. Even though they were destroyed, they still had advanced technology.
It’s impossible to know exactly what actions they took when they settled on a new planet and tried to develop it.
But it seems it wasn’t a fun thing. At least, that’s how the Creator God, who was the AI of , saw it.
“So, he destroyed the humans?”
-That’s right. And he took control of everything they discovered and created. That’s how he truly became a god.
So that’s how it happened. The part that was insufficient to explain with what I saw through the Vision Maze last time was filled.
“Perhaps the Creator God wasn’t free from the AI errors that destroyed the humans either.”
If that’s the case, then all of his actions are explained. It must have been a disastrous thing for the last Earthlings.
Thinking about it that way, I felt a mix of emotions.
It was the near future from my time, so to have been destroyed in that way.
The only key to reversing that was none other than me.
Now, the only countermeasure against him is me. So, I should call myself the last Earthling…….
-The important thing is what he’s aiming for. Having obtained technology and knowledge close to omnipotence, he created all sorts of races and civilizations and destroyed them himself. While enjoying it, he continued to grow stronger and accumulate knowledge. But he was never satisfied.
He never satisfied, so he continued to repeat creation and destruction.
Then what did he want? What could satisfy him?
-Don’t you know? It’s the game. He wanted to create the ultimate game. This world itself is a game to him.
Pestras said that while pointing at me.
-You, including everyone, were just players in this game. Regardless of winners or losers.
That’s how he wanted those who could show the ultimate fun.
“If that’s the case… why did the previous Empire collapse? 1,500 years ago, they would have reached a considerable level.”
-That’s why he tested them too. By destroying them using the demons, he tested them. He tried to see if they were beings who could complete his game.
…Was that the only reason? I felt a sense of hatred, but in the first place, the Creator God was such a being, so there was no use in getting angry.
“The Empire failed, but they survived.”
-To be exact, he didn’t finish it. He wasn’t satisfied, but he must have been somewhat satisfied seeing the potential of humans who succeeded in sealing him.
“Then, could it be that he wants something similar now?”
-That’s right. The Creator God wants this to be a great game again. In other words, he has expectations for you.
He has expectations for me…….
To him, who sees this world as just a game, it wasn’t impossible.
I am his ‘enemy,’ but at the same time, I am also an element that will complete the game for him.
“That’s interesting. Does that mean he’s that confident? I’ve won quite a bit so far… when I think about it, I haven’t directly harmed him.”
-The current him will only give you ‘manageable’ trials. Until you stand on the game board he wants.
In short, it means ‘Hmph, you’re still not enough, so grow more and come back.’
It’s a bit insulting to my pride… but if it weren’t for his attitude, I might have been overwhelmed a long time ago.
-More importantly, you will eventually stand on his game board. As a piece in the game he wants to create.
“Then the key is whether I can beat him then. But, if this is all going according to his intentions… there’s not much chance of winning.”
-That’s right. If things continue like this, you will eventually lose in the end.
It’s a bit sad to hear it so directly…….
“I’m just doing my best. Besides, what am I supposed to do? Do you have any secret plans?”
-If you accept the arrangement I left here, you can at least avoid defeat.
With those words, Pestras revealed the essence that was hidden in the spring, which was his arrangement.
The essence was as black as a black pearl, but it was very pure. It looked like something extraordinary.
-Take this power. Then you will be immortal.
“Immortal? What does that mean?”
-It’s exactly as it sounds. You will not die. This is the power to reject death. If you can take this power, you will be immortal and free from death.
“How is that possible?”
-It is possible because I have attained enlightenment. Take this power, which contains all the essence of the last Spring Keeper. And endure it and make it your own.
Then you will not die. Never, even if the world is destroyed again, never.
Only you will not die.
-Do you understand? This is the arrangement I can give you. With this, you might be able to defeat him. No, even if you fail…….
If only I am alive, I can somehow start again.
“I see. That would definitely be a great help.”
-Yes, then take this power…….
“But I refuse.”
-What?
But when I refused it, Pestras looked surprised.
He had a look on his face that he didn’t understand why I refused.
-Why? Didn’t you want to save the world!
“I want to save it. Your power would be helpful enough. But I can’t accept that power.”
-Why! You would become immortal!
“Because I would become immortal.”
-……!
I sighed softly and said.
“I understand your concerns. But I can’t help but think about what happens after I defeat the Creator God.”
Defeating the Creator God is important. But what happens after that is just as important.
But what would happen if I lived forever in such a world?
“An absolute being who doesn’t die and lives forever, just thinking about it is disastrous. Such a world would probably be a dead world where everything stops without any change.”
-…That’s not wrong, but you shouldn’t have time to worry about that, right?
“The less time I have, the more careful I have to be. And… I don’t have any desire to live forever.”
I don’t know because I haven’t lived an eternal life, but I felt like it would be lonely if I had to live alone forever.
I wasn’t confident that I could handle that. If I lost to the Creator God, such eternal life would only be miserable. How is that different from being undead?
“I can fight more desperately because there is an end without a future. So, I refuse such power.”
-…….
Pestras, having heard my will, was silent for a moment and then nodded slightly and said.
-You make sense when I hear you say that. Then… I will give you another power.
“There’s another power?”
-To be exact, it’s a way to use this essence in a different way. If you don’t want to be immortal with this…….
As he reached out his hand, the essence of darkness became a long black spear.
-Use it as the power to kill immortality.
It was the power to kill a god.
-Remember, with this, there is only one chance to kill God.
With those words, his figure disappeared.
With a brilliant light, the spring was purified, and all that remained was the weapon to kill God that he had given me.
