Small sacks are often wrapped in plastic to prevent spillage, rather than tied with string. However, for large-scale deliveries of tons, a fairly thick string is used to secure the sack and close the opening.
They lift it with a crane, and when the string at the bottom is untied, the contents pour into the warehouse.
“So, they tie it with string.”
“That’s right. And there’s only one feed company in Korea that prints its name on that string.”
Dongju Feed.
One of the most successful and oldest feed companies in Korea. Unlike other feed companies, they actively promote themselves.
“Originally, they didn’t spend money on that kind of thing, but the president changed.”
After the son became president, he realized that simply being an old feed company wasn’t enough for promotion. He actively runs a PR team, developing its own packaging methods and brands.
“A feed company? It’s an old company, isn’t it?”
“Being old isn’t always a good thing.”
When a company gets old, its image becomes fixed. Why do companies pursue a young image? It’s simple: it makes them feel more up-to-date.
It’s the same with feed. If a feed called ‘A’ continues with the same image from the 80s, what will people who buy it for their livestock think? Just that it’s reliable?
No. They’ll think it’s old and outdated, and therefore a feed that hasn’t evolved.
“It’s different from that cosmetics company before, isn’t it?”
“It’s different.”
When people choose what to eat, they avoid the unfamiliar. There’s a significant chance of wasting money due to uncertainty about new products.
And if the choices are similar, they mostly choose what they know.
If the same shrimp crackers come out, they’ll choose the old shrimp crackers, not the new ones.
“But where does an animal have a choice? Animal feed isn’t a matter of trust, it’s a matter of efficiency. Of course, the choice [farmers] want is efficiency.”
What farmers want is for their livestock to grow faster and healthier.
“They think old things don’t develop technology.”
Therefore, in the case of feed, when feed ‘A’ is improved, instead of promoting it as ‘A has been improved,’ they change the name and design and promote it as ‘Feed B is new.’ That way, it’s easier to sell.
“The president of Dongju Feed knows that well. I heard he used to work in advertising.”
“So, you’re saying that Dongju Feed might hire the culprit?”
“It’s not impossible.”
In the case of a 1-ton truck, one of those super-large feed sacks fits perfectly. But generally, for most farms, that one is enough. So, they often call external trucks.
“Of course, it’s rare for moving trucks to carry luggage.”
But it’s only rare, not non-existent. Every job has its off-season. Of course, there’s no off-season for feed delivery, which needs to be eaten every day, but moving inevitably has an off-season.
Especially for moving using 1-ton trucks, it has to be based on small places like studio apartments or officetels [small studio apartments], and most moving happens during the start or end of the semester.
During the semester, the demand for such moving decreases.
“I guess so.”
In the case of moving luggage using a 1-ton truck, there’s no company that specializes in that. So, they have to make a living on their own, doing whatever work comes their way.
“There might be string from that feed company.”
From the company’s perspective, they might collect the sacks, but they wouldn’t care about the string. Since it’s already been cut and used once, it’s better to use a new one than to force the short one later.
“Relatively new, you mean.”
“That’s right.”
Moreover, since it was used to secure such large sacks, it would be long enough to tie up a person without any problems.
“Everything fits.”
“That’s right.”
What’s missing is important. It’s what Park Do-joon often says, and it’s a mistake that many profilers make.
“Should we ask if there are any suspected individuals here [at Dongju Feed]?”
“That would be the fastest.”
From a company’s perspective, they wouldn’t want to employ a murderer.
“But there’s still a problem.”
“There’s no evidence.”
“Everything is an assumption.”
Profiling investigations are systematically recognized, but why aren’t they recognized as evidence in court?
“Profiling is about human psychology, so there’s no hard evidence.”
No body, no murder. It’s a common saying in the legal world.
Of course, it’s not 100% true. In actual cases, murder convictions have been obtained even without a body. Nevertheless, why did this saying come about? Because evidence is that important.
Profiling is a scientific analysis, but since it’s based on individual human thought, there’s a clear possibility of error.
Therefore, it cannot be proven 100%. But hard science, like genetics or fingerprints, cannot be manipulated.
That’s why the saying ‘no body, no murder’ came about, emphasizing the importance of evidence.
“So, we can’t arrest him because there’s no evidence.”
“That’s the problem.”
“Then what do we do?”
“First of all…”
Park Do-joon pondered and then said.
“We need to find the keyword first.”
“Are you going to contact him? He’ll smell it and run away.”
“We can contact him in a different way.”
“A different way?”
“That guy is challenging us. He’s playing a game. In that case, what he cares about is the police, not other places.”
Other places don’t have investigative power, so he wouldn’t care.
“So, there’s a way for us to contact him naturally.”
Park Do-joon smiled and said.
“Let’s put on a show.”
Park Do-joon began to identify the vehicle doing the work. It wasn’t difficult to find. Comparing the moving records of the victims and the promotion or recommendation records on shaman websites, tracking the phone numbers within was very easy.
Even if that number is a burner phone [disposable phone], it’s still a work phone. Of course, the person has to use it to work.
So, he contacted him and found a suitable location.
“The road is a bit rough.”
Park Do-joon said, looking out the window. But he kept an eye on the man driving next to him.
“That’s how prayer sites are, haha.”
A man who seems like a nice guy. In his late 20s. Short hair and a sturdy face.
‘But this guy is the most suspicious.’
There were several suspicious numbers. There were several people with good reviews.
‘But this is the only person who has worked in the provinces with this number.’
That’s why Park Do-joon was suspicious of him.
‘Chang-soman.’
He’s the most suspicious guy, but that doesn’t mean he’s definitely the culprit. That’s why Park Do-joon was going to test Chang-soman first.
‘He has good reviews among shamans.’
He’s a very nice person. That’s why he was the most suspicious.
‘The vehicle is a typical 1-ton truck, but there are no items used for moving.’
But he already knows that he has done moving work with this number.
‘That means he takes whatever work comes his way.’
If he only took moving jobs, he would just leave the packaging supplies in the vehicle. There aren’t many things to move today. But the fact that it’s not there means he’s doing other work.
‘I actually confirmed that there was a feed delivery the day before yesterday.’
So, he unloaded the luggage and delivered the feed.
‘And I checked the string too.’
The string lying in a corner of the vehicle’s cargo area.
The string was clearly from Dongju Feed.
‘The problem is that there’s no way to confirm if this guy is the culprit.’
To definitively link him to the crime, a code to decipher the cipher is needed.
‘The problem is circumstantial evidence.’
The vehicle and the equipment are all just suspicions.
‘I need to find out first.’
Park Do-joon said that while observing Chang-soman’s demeanor.
‘If he’s the culprit, he’ll want to show off his superiority.’
If he’s the type who just works without thinking, he wouldn’t play such a dangerous game with the police.
‘He wants to hide his inferiority complex, so he wants to emphasize that he’s different from others.’
There’s not much space in the truck, so there might not be anything like that? No. Depending on the situation, you can leave something like that inside the truck.
‘Like a book.’
And a book is surprisingly the most commonly used cipher key. It’s not strange for anyone to have it, and it’s the most efficient way to appeal to a person’s intellectual ability.
In fact, past con artists always carried original novels or English newspapers, because they wanted to appeal to their intellectual abilities, giving the other person the psychological illusion that they were trustworthy.
‘It’s not for fraud, but…’
The culprit wants to appeal to his intellectual abilities. In other words, he wants to show his presence to someone and be recognized.
‘Then he’s bound to put something that will be an issue somewhere.’
Something that can naturally boast about his intellectual area. And in a way that allows the other person to be interested in it.
‘He’s not even playing the radio.’
Even if he’s pretending to be a shaman and boarding, he can’t just talk about that. He should be playing the radio or doing something else during the long drive, but he’s not playing anything at all.
‘He’s secretly hoping.’
He’s waiting for a bored passenger to show interest in the issue he created, looking for an opportunity.
‘To dominate people and fill his self-esteem by doing so.’
Surprisingly, there are many such people. And it’s so subtle that people often don’t notice.
For example, among criminals, there are those who, after being arrested, say ‘Hey, give me a glass of water’ as soon as the police or profiler enters the interrogation room.
Generally, it’s not difficult to ask for a glass of water, and not giving water, even during an investigation, is a clear violation of human rights, so they give water.
But the criminal isn’t thirsty. They ask for water to feel superior by ordering the police to do something.
By asking for water and having the police accept it, they believe they have dominated the police.
That’s why commenters are rampant.
Because they are inferior, they make others feel bad, hurting the feelings of the target, and gaining a kind of self-satisfaction that ‘I can control other people’s feelings. I am more superior.’
‘A good way to suppress those guys is not to ignore them, but to criticize them.’
