‘Why Divinity?’
Divinity was, in a way, the very essence of a god’s power.
There was no way Constellations would simply abandon such power anywhere.
But such power was hidden inside a mere 9th-floor ruin? And it was the Divinity of Kepri, one of the gods of the sun, not just any ordinary Constellation.
Even now, Kepri was screaming, begging him to take any other treasure, but to please leave that one alone.
Seun, calmly considering the situation, soon realized the reason.
‘To create an Apostle, perhaps.’
The concept of an Apostle and a Believer was as different as a small puddle and the ocean.
Believers were merely followers of the Constellation, while Apostles were those who carried out the Constellation’s will.
Naturally, appointing such an Apostle was no easy task.
The player had to be granted Divinity, imbuing them with the same energy as the Constellation.
However, the Tower’s system was not lenient, and a great amount of causality [the relationship between cause and effect] had to be consumed in the process of bestowing Divinity.
‘However, this method changes things.’
Divinity hidden as a reward for a trial.
This way, Divinity could be bestowed upon a player in the name of a trial reward without consuming a significant amount of causality.
A kind of trick, one might say?
In Seun’s memory, Kepri’s influence in the Tower was not significant. There were no Apostles either.
It seemed this was a measure to create that Apostle.
Seun smiled lightly after finishing his thoughts.
‘Whatever the reason, it’s none of my business.’
-Would you like to acquire the ‘Golden Scarab’ as a reward?
He nodded without hesitation at the system’s question.
Kepri’s messages flooded his vision, but Seun paid no attention and manifested the light of the Stigmata [a mark or scar signifying divine favor].
Since the Stigmata began to take the form of a wolf’s fang instead of a goat’s mark, he had become accustomed to handling it.
Especially, like he did in the Crystal Cave, devouring other Divinities was something he was quite used to.
Woong!
-The Constellation, ‘He Who Rolls the Sun,’ is furious that his Divinity, meant for his future Apostle, has been stolen.
-The Constellation, ‘He Who Rolls the Sun,’ threatens to take it back, saying it’s not too late.
-The Constellation, ‘The Bowed Crow,’ flaps its wings greatly, saying it is experiencing a refreshing moment here that it never experienced even in the Verhel Continent.
Kepri’s threats were heard, but it was already too late.
Seun’s Stigmata emitted a red light and greedily devoured the Divinity residing in the dung beetle fragment.
A burning heat was felt on the back of his right hand, and he could feel something filling up inside the Stigmata.
This was Kepri’s Divinity.
As soon as it was absorbed into the Stigmata, it abandoned its original solar nature and was consumed by the power of fear and madness.
Not long after.
Crack-
The dung beetle fragment, having lost all its Divinity, turned to sand and scattered into the air.
Seun felt a satisfaction unlike anything he had felt when accumulating mana, as the rank engraved in his soul rose.
-The Constellation, ‘He Who Rolls the Sun,’ is frustrated.
He felt sorry for Kepri, but he couldn’t just pass up such a good opportunity.
Initially, his goal was to somehow prevent the Divine-Demonic War, maintain the power of the Constellations, and prevent the invasion of the Outer Gods, but now, his goal had surpassed that to acquire the qualifications of a Constellation.
Since Seun didn’t trust the Constellations in the first place, he honestly preferred this plan.
It was uncertain whether the two forces would join forces to face the Outer Gods even if the Divine-Demonic War was prevented.
Creak-
Turning around, he saw the door that had been wide open slowly closing.
It was the system’s warning to leave now that he had obtained his reward.
“Let’s go.”
“Yes!”
He had no intention of resisting the system’s will, let alone the words of a Constellation.
Seun and Yuseo-ah leisurely walked out of the door, and the splendid gold and silver treasures slowly disappeared from their sight.
-The Constellation, ‘He Who Rolls the Sun,’ changes his mind.
-The Constellation, ‘He Who Rolls the Sun,’ suggests becoming his Apostle at this opportunity.
-The Constellation, ‘The Bowed Crow,’ frowns, asking what he is doing.
‘An Apostle…….’
From Kepri’s perspective, it was a plausible suggestion.
Since he had already lost his Divinity, he would only suffer losses if he let Seun go like this.
On the other hand, if Seun became an Apostle? Although the start was different, he would eventually have the Apostle he so desired.
It was a win-win situation.
-The Constellation, ‘He Who Rolls the Sun,’ boasts that if you become his Apostle, he will promise sufficient rewards and positions accordingly.
-The Constellation, ‘He Who Rolls the Sun,’ boasts that you will be able to enjoy much more brilliant power and honor than following such a dirty crow.
It was definitely a good offer.
If he became Kepri’s Apostle, not just any ordinary believer, he would be able to wield tremendous power as he said.
If it were a typical player, they would prostrate themselves on the floor and bow to him immediately.
However, Seun was different.
“No, thank you.”
From the beginning, Seun had no intention of becoming an Apostle of anyone, whether it be an evil god or a good god.
As evidence, he had only made deals with the three Demon Gods currently by his side, but had not become an Apostle.
The moment he was contracted and bound somewhere, his plan to face the Outer Gods would not be achieved.
-The Constellation, ‘The Bowed Crow,’ shrugs his shoulders and feels proud.
-The Constellation, ‘He Who Rolls the Sun,’ feels great anger towards you for daring to kill his pet beetle, stealing his Divinity, and even rejecting the position of Apostle.
-The Constellation, ‘He Who Rolls the Sun,’ declares a kill order on you for finally starting down the path of evil…….
“Mammon, could you block that for me?”
-The Constellation, ‘The Bowed Crow,’ informs you that the sun beetle has quite a high rank, even though it looks like that.
-The Constellation, ‘The Bowed Crow,’ says that he will gladly accept your request this time.
Click.
After that, Kepri’s noisy messages no longer appeared.
A kill order?
He didn’t care about such things.
Players in the Tower basically require a great expenditure of power to descend to the lower floors.
It was unlikely that a player from the upper floors would come down here just to kill Seun.
Conversely, if those in the lower floors attacked Seun?
No matter how many of them attacked in droves, they would not be a match for Seun.
Even if Seun went to their territory, by that time, Seun’s power would probably far surpass them.
“Yuseo-ah, let’s go.”
Ignoring Mammon’s pleasant laughter, the two moved forward to finish exploring the ruins.
* * *
Exploring the ruins was not difficult.
It was a ruin he had already explored once before his regression, and it was a dungeon where monsters did not exist in the first place.
There were some traps and quizzes to move forward, but Seun broke through them without any difficulty.
And finally.
The exploration of the ruins was completed only after inserting the three pieces obtained while exploring the ruins into the gaps in the last statue.
‘Come to think of it, this was also a dung beetle fragment.’
Now that he knew this was a ruin related to Kepri, he saw many traces related to him.
Thanks to Mammon, it was quiet, but wasn’t he still cursing at Seun?
He had such thoughts, but soon shook his head.
It was a problem that had no answer even if he worried about it right now.
-You have successfully completed the 9th floor trial ‘Desert Ruins’.
-Calculating contribution points…….
-Time remaining: 39 hours 59 minutes
-Selected ruins: ‘Tomb of Early Morning’
-Hidden quest ‘Scarab’s Treasure’ completed.
…
-Total accumulated contribution points: 173,000 points
Even though he found a hidden quest, he was not in the rankings, and the contribution points he earned were not as high as those he had obtained on other floors.
‘That means the difficulty of the ruins is that much lower.’
But he had no regrets.
Through this trial, Seun was able to acquire ‘Divinity’ and raise the rank of his soul.
This was a result with a value more precious than any ordinary treasure.
Yuseo-ah was also satisfied.
She was constantly smiling, saying that her steps had become lighter since wearing the necklace.
“Well, it seems the others aren’t here yet.”
Before challenging the next trial, the two checked the clan chat.
Seeing that no one had passed yet, it seemed that everyone was struggling quite a bit.
‘Well, this trial is a more difficult trial than I thought.’
The reason Seun was able to pass the trial quickly was thanks to his exploration experience before the regression.
If that wasn’t the case, he would have spent much longer even if he challenged the same ruins.
In fact, Seun before the regression had spent more than 20 hours to conquer the ‘Tomb of Early Morning’.
[Lee Haneul: Is there anyone who entered ‘Crouching Scales’? There are many monsters related to poison here, so please be careful if you are trying to enter.]
[Lee Iljung: It seems that everyone has chosen different ruins. It would be impossible to ask for advice.]
[Han Dawoon: I asked a few people and it seems that everyone started in different locations!]
[Han Areum: Ah, really, this oppa [term for older brother or male friend] chose another strange place!]
[Park Jungpil: How would I know it would be a place like this! You didn’t know either! You’re already learning politics at such a young age!]
[Han Areum: Shut up!]
‘Were the starting locations originally different?’
The location where Seun started the trial this time was the same as before the regression.
Of course, he thought that the others would have the same location, just with different spaces, but it seemed that was not the case.
Perhaps there is a law of…… something that depends on the player.
Otherwise, it would not be explained that he started in the same location as before the regression.
“What will the next floor be like?”
“Well…….”
In fact, he already knew.
The final 10th floor trial with a desert theme.
Unlike the trials that one or two people had experienced so far, it was a trial that could be challenged by a large group of dozens of people or more.
Of course, if you belong to a clan, it is also possible to challenge as a clan.
Seun before the regression was in a state where the clan had been dissolved, so he joined the vacancies of other clans to undergo the trial.
The fact that many players can gather and challenge means that the trial is that much more difficult.
Just like he was told to face an ogre with only two people on the 5th floor, the 10th floor also had to face enemies that were difficult to handle even with dozens of people.
‘Well, should I go ahead and prepare something?’
Once you enter the 10th floor and everyone gathers, the countdown starts immediately.
It would be easier to arrive beforehand and prepare for battle if possible.
Seun already knew the contents of the trial, but the more thorough the preparation, the easier it becomes.
“Let’s go first.”
“Yes!”
Woowoong!
The traces of Seun and Yuseo-ah disappeared from the end of the ruins.
And in that place, the screams of Kepri, the god of sunrise, seemed to echo, unheard by anyone.
