83. The One Who Watches Everything – 2
“I have no idea what you’re trying to make.”
Grajin shook his head.
Even as a highly educated wizard, he often struggled to grasp Ian’s thought process.
Ian grinned at him, knowing Grajin couldn’t predict his next move.
He raised a hand towards the devices he’d painstakingly assembled over the past few days.
-Whoooong…….
The six rings within his heart resonated.
Simultaneously, dozens of magic circles within the fusion chamber activated. Ian carefully placed the prepared materials on each platform.
Crystalline light bathed the collection of various metals, medicinal herbs, reagents, and monster parts.
Enchantment began, fueled by the infusion of magic power.
Magic power and unique properties were extracted from each material, then channeled into the iron plate resting on the central platform.
Grajin, observing intently, commented with interest, “To think enchantment could be achieved this way. Amazing.”
Meanwhile, other wizards and alchemists had gathered, drawn by the novel enchantment method.
They watched with bated breath as the crystalline light faded.
“Hmm…….”
Ian picked up the enchanted iron plate.
Several wizards who examined the plate, freshly forged in the new furnace and now enchanted, tilted their heads in confusion.
“It doesn’t seem to have changed much.”
“What’s different about it?”
Instead of answering, Ian passed the iron plate to one of the curious wizards.
The wizard received it and gasped in astonishment.
“Gasp!!”
“What’s wrong?”
“T, this…….”
He held the iron plate with both hands and attempted to bend it.
Surprisingly, the iron plate exhibited incredible flexibility, bending far more than expected.
“U, unbelievable!!”
“This is iron?!!”
“Bring a hammer!! A hammer!! What about its strength?!!”
“Check the magic absorption rate!!”
Wizards and alchemists buzzed with excitement over the iron plate, its properties altered by Ian’s enchantment.
While they hammered, cast spells, and poured solutions onto the plate, Grajin watched, impressed.
The enchanted iron plate possessed both excellent flexibility and remarkable strength.
Even corrosive solutions had no effect.
Furthermore, its magic absorption rate surpassed that of most metals.
This was a technological leap that could revolutionize material engineering in this world.
As everyone marveled, Grajin asked curiously, “Wow. Where did you learn this?”
“Here and there.”
As he replied, Grajin glanced around and lowered his voice. “Could this also be from another dimension……?”
“Similar. The method itself originates from that side, but I adapted it using techniques from here.”
“Amazing. But why did you make that?”
“I told you, I need to create defense facilities and weapons. I have to prepare when I have the time.”
“When you have time, huh? I suppose you’re not interested in the Hero Festival?”
The Academy’s annual festival, the Hero Festival, was fast approaching.
As an Academy student, Ian was eligible to participate.
But he spoke of preparing only when he had time.
“Do I have to participate in the Hero Festival?”
“I guess not.”
Grajin chuckled and nodded.
One of the gathered wizards called out to Ian.
“Ian! Ian! Hey! Ian!!”
The wizard from the Magic Tower approached, clutching the iron plate protectively.
He clearly coveted the iron plate Ian had created.
“C, can’t you hand this over to the Magic Tower? If Headmaster Trinmere of our school sees it, he will definitely…….”
The Trinmere School actively supported railroad construction in partnership with Fredician County.
They were naturally interested in such unique and versatile materials.
The fact that it could bend so flexibly while maintaining its strength was particularly appealing.
Research into this material could greatly aid in railroad construction.
“Magic Tower, my foot!! This should be handed over to the Alchemist Guild!! I’ll give you as many reagents or materials as you want…….”
The Alchemist Guild also eagerly desired the new metal.
As the two groups bickered, Ian held up his hand.
“I’ll teach you the manufacturing method later, so don’t make a fuss and give it back to me.”
“Gasp!!”
They should have been grateful for a mere sample, yet he was offering to teach them the entire process.
As they stood in stunned silence, Ian called for Manya.
Manya scampered over and climbed onto his shoulder. Ian placed the remaining materials in his bag and said, “I need to make a few more of these. It would be more efficient to have a larger team working on it rather than doing it alone.”
“R, really? Then the manufacturing method is…….”
“I’ll let you know when the enchantment practice room is completed and I’m working on my project. Please support the work then.”
Ian retrieved the iron plate and placed it in his bag.
The wizards of the Magic Tower and the alchemists of the Alchemist Guild were deeply moved by his words.
“Knowledge is power, is it okay to just hand it over like that?”
“It’s easier to wield power when more people are involved. And it benefits me if this kind of technology advances.”
He could create even more advanced things with wider adoption of the technology.
As Ian prepared to leave, his work completed, Blench came running from afar.
“Hey! Ian!”
“Why? Did someone come from the Scarlet Kingdom?”
“……How do you always know everything before I even say it?”
Blench, who had been beaming, frowned.
“I heard there’s a coronation ceremony tomorrow. They want Academy students to attend and offer congratulations.”
And Ian had been selected to participate.
“Are you going?”
“I have to go. I’m supposed to receive a lot of support money.”
After suppressing Kaen’s rebellion, Keith and Eldan had swiftly seized power in the Scarlet Kingdom.
They confiscated Pelle County and decided to allocate all funds generated from it to the Academy.
However, as processing the funds would take time, Baradis County, Icevin County, and the Scarlet Kingdom agreed to cover the initial amount.
This unexpected windfall allowed the Academy to undertake various projects.
“How much are you trying to earn to fund so many projects?”
“I’m planning to build a reagent manufacturing room next semester.”
“Why don’t you make an external subjugation defense facility while you’re at it? Like the one in the Forgotten City.”
Ian was rumored to have inherited the legacy of the Magic Kingdom.
Blench wondered if he could create guardians or defense facilities similar to those used in the Magic Kingdom.
As Blench spoke jokingly, Ian smiled.
“Are you really suggesting I build one?”
“Well, if you’re going to build it, it shouldn’t just be at the level of the Forgotten City.”
“Only? Can you make something better than that?!!”
“That’s nothing.”
Ian, dismissing it lightly, headed to the dormitory with Manya and Nuab.
Upon returning to the dormitory, Nuab yawned and settled down on the sofa.
The students eyed Nuab with a mix of awe and apprehension.
His status as the Spirit King made it difficult to approach him as casually as they had when they first met him.
But not everyone felt that way.
“Nuab!”
“I brought you something good!!”
Park Bare and Wilval disregarded his royal status.
Nuab perked up at the sight of the cookies they offered.
“Woof woof!!”
“Wow. How cute. To think he’s the Spirit King.”
“I like Manya, but I like Nuab too. Ugh~ Look at this fur~ I used to have a dog at my house.”
Wilval stroked Nuab’s fur, clearly delighted.
He seemed to be reminded of the hunting dog he had raised at home for many years.
As he petted Nuab, Wildy sighed.
“What if Nuab gets angry and goes wild?”
“Eh~ No way.”
Widia smiled and handed Ian a cup of tea.
Meanwhile, other students returned from their classes, with Aranse arriving last.
“Ian. You heard from Blench, right?”
“Yes. Let’s go tomorrow.”
“Really? Um. And…….”
He glanced at the students in the lobby.
“Haryun, Wildy, and Grajin. I want the three of you to go together.”
“I can’t go. I have work with the Relic Society tomorrow.”
Besides, why would he attend the coronation of a king from another country when it wasn’t even his own?
Grajin, who wasn’t particularly close to Lakid, refused outright.
Aranse smiled wryly and nodded.
“Then one more person…….”
Blench eagerly raised his hand.
Aranse shook his head.
“You have to train tomorrow. Instructor Pridion said he’ll make time to see you, so learn well.”
“Ugh…… I wanted to rest for just one day…….”
“Haryun, Wildy. Are you going?”
“Well, we have to go because of the merchant guild.”
It was easier to establish business connections and open up sales channels with the Scarlet Kingdom at times like this.
As they replied, Aranse looked around at the others.
“Is there anyone else who wants to go?”
“I’ll go.”
Widia raised her hand, and Aranse nodded.
“Then that’s all we need to go from the Academy.”
“Isn’t Rowena going?”
“The Student Council is in chaos right now.”
Ian chuckled, hearing that the Student Council was overwhelmed by the management of the substantial support funds and the new project.
‘There’s no need to suffer for a useless title. Let’s just get what we need.’
“Then let’s leave tomorrow morning.”
* * *
There were no special events at Lakid’s coronation ceremony the next day.
Eldan and Keith had even increased the number of escort troops in anticipation of potential assassins.
But nothing happened.
As Lakid safely donned the crown and became the King of the Scarlet Kingdom, the nobles breathed a collective sigh of relief.
“There were some confusing times, but…… I guess there won’t be any problems.”
“The power of the Sun Church will become stronger, but…….”
As Aranse listened to the nobles’ conversations as they exited the coronation ceremony, he said quietly, “It’s not bad for the Academy, but it’s going to be a headache for the Scarlet Kingdom.”
Recalling the priests of the Sun Church who had been present, Haryun shook his head.
“But it’s Lakid, so will there be any problems? And there’s Count Eldan and Commander Keith…….”
“And the Sword Flower Troupe was recognized as benefactors of the Scarlet Royal Family, right? So wouldn’t they help if something happened?”
“You never know. Politics isn’t that easy.”
After a moment, Aranse turned to Ian.
“What do you think?”
“They’ll manage just fine.”
As he said this casually, Keith approached Ian.
“Ian. I need to speak with you for a moment.”
“What is it?”
Keith, preventing Ian from leaving, looked around and lowered his voice.
“You mentioned fighting demons, correct? Some strange traces have been discovered in Pelle County.”
The Crimson Knights had been dispatched to conduct a thorough investigation and inspection of Pelle County.
They joined forces with the local Guardians to investigate.
“This is the result of that investigation.”
She handed over a bundle of documents.
Ian received them, read them calmly, and then tilted his head.
“Are you saying that people have been disappearing in Pelle County since before Kaen arrived?”
