28. Removing the Competition – 2
I succeeded in creating reinforced Briden ingots during the alchemy class.
Ian organized the iron ingots placed beside him, examining their durability and elasticity.
Each of the three materials has special components, and when processed and applied to the iron, they increase its rigidity.
‘But when am I going to find all that?’
As Ian thought this, a little discouraged, Kirke reported as if she knew he would react that way.
Hearing that, Ian considered planning a visit during the upcoming holidays.
At that moment, Scranda approached him.
“Iron extracted from southern Briden ore becomes even more rigid when special materials are added. I’ll get them for you.”
“Thank you.”
He was genuinely grateful that Scranda would obtain them for him.
As Ian bowed slightly in thanks, Scranda stared at him intently.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Ever thought about quitting the academy and becoming a blacksmith?”
“No.”
“Is that so? Too bad.”
As he went to check on other students, Vala exclaimed in admiration.
“Wow~ I think this is the first time Instructor Scranda has said something like that to a student.”
‘Would a dwarf even suggest a blacksmith job to a human in the first place?’
That meant he was being recognized to a significant degree.
While everyone was admiring and envying him, Vala clung to his arm.
“Make me an axe later.”
“Why are you even taking the alchemy class? Aren’t you trying to make your own weapon?”
“Sigh…….”
He picked up the split iron ingot again.
“I guess I’m hopeless. I keep trying, but it doesn’t work…….”
“Try harder. I’ll teach you again later.”
Ian comforted the sulky Vala and they headed outside together.
As they were passing the academy’s main building and heading towards the dormitory, they heard a loud commotion.
“Ha! The Fligen barony or whatever?!
“What? Do you want to die?!
Students from another intermediate class were fighting.
Then, just like yesterday, the door of the main building burst open.
“Why is that prince so busy?”
“Mya mya~.”
“Chairman Rakid is always like that.”
Unlike yesterday, neither Ian nor Myane paid much attention to him.
Regardless, Rakid walked out with a stern face, glaring at the two fighting students.
“What’s all this commotion?”
“Ah, no. Chairman.”
“It’s not that…….”
“If you want a duel, I’ll be your opponent. But fighting is not allowed.”
As he raised his sword, the students who were cursing at each other and throwing punches ran away as if fleeing.
Vala, who was watching this, felt bitter.
“How long has it been since he returned from his mission? He’s getting pushed around everywhere……. I heard the mission was tough too.”
“What kind of mission was it?”
“It was a demon subjugation. There’s a territory called Fordo in the Evol Kingdom, and a demon contractor appeared there.”
So, the Solar Order [a religious organization dedicated to fighting demons] requested assistance from the academy to subjugate the demon together.
“The academy is affiliated with the Solar Order, so they believe all demons must be annihilated. To do that, they need strong people.”
“I guess. Masters in the upper class or high-circle mages would be a great help.”
Walking into the cafeteria, Vala agreed with his words.
Inside were Blanche, Haryun, and Oerina.
They waved at the two of them.
Vala, who received a signal to have dinner together, ordered Course A, which was full of meat, and continued speaking.
“The upper-class missions are often monster or demon subjugation.”
“There are quite a few countries and organizations supporting the academy. They want to be repaid in some way.”
There is no such thing as a free lunch.
If they provided support, they would naturally want something in return.
However, since there are many countries and families associated with the academy, it would be difficult to call on them for politically sensitive battles.
But dealing with monsters or demon contractors is different.
That’s why they probably request support whenever these problems arise.
“Isn’t this exploitation? We didn’t come to the academy to work.”
“Well, they get compensated accordingly. I heard the chairman received a Solar Stellar Stone as compensation this time.”
“That’s a bit envious.”
“Hahaha. Then you should join the student council.”
“I’ll pass on that.”
As the two who were talking sat down, Haryun, who had been waiting, smiled.
“Ian. Do you need a Solar Stellar Stone?”
“It would be nice to have one.”
“Hmm…… Should I try to get one…….”
Not only Haryun but also Blanche is seriously contemplating.
Oerina, who was watching them, giggled.
“Ahaha. Ian, it must be nice to be so popular?”
“Should I sign an autograph?”
“No autographs needed…… I’ll give you some information for your sake.”
She gave a refreshing smile and winked.
“You know about the incident that happened last night, right? Chairman Rakid personally offered a reward today in connection with that. The reward is a Solar Stellar Stone.”
Hearing that, Ian grinned.
‘I’m glad I raised him well.’
‘I let him go yesterday without catching him, and he grew up so well.’
Now, all that’s left is to pick the ripe fruit.
“In the name of my grandfather, I will catch that guy. Definitely.”
“What did your grandfather do? Was he a detective?”
“I heard he was just a regular nobleman?”
“……That’s it?”
“What were you expecting?”
Before anyone else can take the lead, I need to catch him, including the evidence.
As Ian was about to get up, he heard a voice full of arrogance behind him.
“Oh. You’re trying to get involved in that incident? Is this you saying you want to compete with me?”
Ian turned around.
There stood a silver-haired, glasses-wearing pretty boy.
“Who are you?”
“I’m Helid Beridan from Intermediate Class C.”
He slowly pushed up his crystal glasses.
Ian looked at him and realized.
‘Then I can’t just let him be.’
Ian handed Myane over to Oerina and glared at him.
“You, come to the bathroom with me for a second. Let’s have a heart-to-heart talk.”
When Ian, who had taken Helid, returned alone, Haryun, who had been pushed back by everyone, asked awkwardly.
“Um…… I can roughly guess, but why did you suddenly go to the bathroom with him?”
“That friend was kind enough to hand over what he was investigating. He said he’s too busy studying these days to do it. He’s a rare good guy in this day and age.”
In his hand was a notebook that hadn’t been there until just now.
“What did you say to him…….”
“If you’re curious, do you want to come with me?”
Blanche shook her head.
Ian smiled and said nonchalantly.
“Actually, I already know who the suspect is. But there’s something bothering me.”
Ian took out the notebook he had received from Helid and opened it.
According to his investigation, strange things had been happening for the past few days in addition to the assault on lower-class students.
“Strange things?”
“Recently, there have been injuries among intermediate and upper-class students.”
“It’s not really a special thing for injuries to happen at the academy, is it?”
The academy’s training is quite intense.
In the process, some students even died or were unable to fight anymore.
Was that all?
Some couldn’t endure the training or group life and ran away.
So, what’s the big deal about injuries?
“It’s not that kind of problem, but the number of injuries caused by falling, bumping into something, or being hit by something falling has increased.”
Ian showed the notebook filled with Helid’s investigation.
Everyone read the contents and questioned it.
“Not lower-class, but intermediate and upper-class students getting hurt by that?”
Hearing it like this, it’s definitely strange.
Intermediate students are at least aura users [individuals who can manipulate their life force], and upper-class students are basically experts, and there are even masters like Rakid.
There’s no way they could get hurt by just that.
“And the start date of these incidents is the same as the return date of the upper-class students’ mission.”
Only then did everyone’s expression harden.
“What was the upper-class students’ mission this time?”
“Demon subjugation……. Are you saying this incident is related to demons?”
As he closed the notebook, Haryun frowned.
“That guy found this earlier, right? Do you trust this information?”
“For now. That’s why I’m going to the student council.”
He had confirmed through Kirke earlier that they were definitely injured.
That’s why he spoke with conviction, and everyone was surprised by his statement.
Everyone realized who Ian was suspecting.
“Are you suspecting Chairman Rakid right now?”
As Blanche asked, Ian nodded.
“Anyone who moves is a suspect.”
“I don’t know where you heard that…… Ian. Still, don’t you think it’s a bit much to suspect your country’s prince?”
As Oerina said awkwardly, Ian shook his head.
“What does that have to do with this?”
A third son of a mere baronial family suspecting a prince.
If handled poorly, it could turn into a big problem.
Especially considering his reckless personality.
As everyone worried, Haryun sighed and got up from his seat.
“Oh dear. Oh dear. I can’t help it.”
“Why are you getting up?”
“I’m affiliated with a marquis family for now. And as someone from another country, it’ll be easier to question the chairman.”
Vala pointed at Ian.
“I don’t think he cares about being a prince or anything.”
Blanche and Oerina agreed, but Haryun was firm.
“Ian. I’ll help you. I don’t want to just sit back and watch problems continue to occur at the academy.”
“Are you serious? Why do you care about that?”
“Solving these problems and defeating demons. Doesn’t that fit the heroic tale? Ha. Actually, I really wanted to be involved in something like this.”
Haryun’s eyes were sparkling.
Such things happened in the heroic tales and mystery novels he often read.
Solving problems that arise in a group and proving one’s worth.
And next to him is Ian, a powerful swordsman.
Then a mage should join as a side character to create a good picture.
Oerina was dumbfounded at his confident words.
“Do you still read those novels these days?”
“Those novels?”
“Like the kind of novels commoners read when they learn to read. It’s a bit much for a nobleman to read. What was it last time?”
“I Became the Strongest in the World with Fireball as a High School Student in Another World.”
Vala seemed to know as well, as he said lightly.
“That’s a great title. I even want to see it once.”
As Ian was dumbfounded, Haryun was delighted.
“Should I give it to you?! I have many other good ones besides that!”
Haryun was happy at the thought of making a friend who shared the same hobby, and Oerina stopped him.
“Anyway, if you’re joining, I can’t just stand still.”
Following Oerina, Blanche and Vala also got up from their seats.
“Sigh. If a friend steps up, can I just watch? That’s not what friends do.”
“Is my biggest flaw really thinking too much about my friends?”
In an instant, the number of people increased by four.
Ian stared at them and opened his mouth.
“There’s only one Solar Stellar Stone, but the number of competitors has increased like this. All of you, let’s have a talk.”
As he growled fiercely, the four who had stood up sat down again.
