20. To Those Who Don’t Listen – 2
The company dinner was over.
Aranse, who had drunk an entire bottle of strong liquor by himself, and even surreptitiously finished off all the wine served with the dishes, was giggling, thoroughly drunk.
“Oh~ My pretty little ones. We can win this time, right?”
“Yes, yes. But could you please stop clinging to me?”
Balla, who was grabbed by Aranse, was very annoyed.
Ian, glancing at the grumbling Balla, asked Blanche,
“But why is Instructor Aranse working as an instructor?”
“Huh? Oh, that? I heard about it, but I’m not really sure of the details.”
“What! Ian! Blanche! Are you talking about me behind my back?!”
“Instructor! Please! Hey! Wilbal! Widia! Hold the instructor!”
Two students grabbed Aranse.
Only when three people held him did his staggering body stop.
“What are you curious about? Don’t talk behind my back, ask me directly! What can’t I tell you!”
Staring straight at him, who was reeking of strong alcohol, Ian asked directly.
“Why did you leave the Biden barony? Do you have any intention of going back?”
“Oh… you’re really asking directly.”
“I can’t refuse a request.”
“Hmm… it’s nothing much. It’s just that I met the Sword Saint there… my mentor in my heart.”
He, too, as a member of the Biden family, guarded the Forgotten City.
And then, he met an old man.
A man who wielded a sword like light.
He met the Sword Saint.
“He was strong… very strong… he was very strong…”
“So?”
“I learned the sword a few times… and then I heard.”
“Did he tell you to become an academy instructor?”
“Yeah… if I become a high-ranking instructor at the academy… then I’ll meet him again… until then… Cool… Keuheoeoeoe….”
In the end, Aranse couldn’t overcome his drunkenness and fell sound asleep.
Balla lightly carried him on his back.
“Ian, is there anything else you’re curious about?”
“I have a few more questions, but I should ask later.”
Or he could just get the information from Kirke.
Ian stepped back slightly and asked immediately.
“Kirke, how strong is the Sword Saint?”
“The Emperor is the first?”
“Then, at their level, they can roam the Forgotten City with ease.”
Then that’s enough.
Ian closed his mouth, satisfied, and Haryun shouted at Ian, who was lagging behind.
“Hey, the instructor is awake! Don’t you have anything else to ask?”
Ian smirked.
He already knew everything he needed to know.
“Just let him sleep.”
* * *
The company dinner ended, and the next day arrived.
Today, Class B has no special schedule.
They could do personal training or rest.
Or patrol for points.
Or spend enjoyable time with their lovers or families.
Ian, who had no lover, no family, and no interest in resting, chose to patrol with Blanche.
“Where is the Count?”
“He went to meet other kids to scout them. Oh ho. Do you want to talk to your father a little more? If so, tonight….”
“No, thanks.”
Just then.
“T, this is a scam!! Give me back my money!!”
Hearing a cry filled with embarrassment, they immediately headed to where the cry came from.
Merchants from all over were selling goods for the Hero Festival.
Among them, of course, were monster materials for alchemy or enchantments.
A commotion was happening at a stall selling quite good materials.
“These scammers!!”
“What?! Why am I a scammer!! I am a merchant affiliated with the Adventurer’s Guild! Look! This is my registration!!”
“What’s going on?”
As Ian and Blanche approached, the merchant, who had been growling at the boy, welcomed them.
“Oh my!! Aren’t you patrol students? You’re working hard in this heat. Have some of this.”
The merchant handed over two bottles of cool drinks and said.
“No, he bought the item and keeps changing his mind. We can handle it, so the students can go on with their work. You must be busy.”
As Blanche watched, the brown-haired boy shouted urgently.
“This guy is scamming!!”
And he held up the box in his hand.
The rather luxurious box had the Adventurer’s Guild emblem engraved on it.
“He switched the box!”
“What are you talking about! Do you have proof?!”
“Look under that stall! There will definitely be Arachne’s web with Perrin solution [a type of alchemical solution] on it!”
“Are you going to keep interfering with my business?! I even got permission from the academy! Should I report you?!”
“Go ahead! Go ahead!”
While they were arguing again, Ian opened the box.
There was a clump of silvery, shimmering thread.
“It’s Filark’s web, isn’t it?”
Filark is a weak spider monster belonging to class C.
It can be easily found everywhere, so Filark’s web was easy to obtain.
“It was Arachne’s web until just now when you sold it. Gri….”
As he was getting angry, he tilted his head, looking at Blanche’s face.
“Aren’t you student Blanche?”
“Haa… this popularity of mine… everyone recognizes me everywhere? Should I sign an autograph?”
As he said with a smile, the boy was embarrassed and moved on to what he was saying.
“Ah, yes. Th… anyway, it was Arachne’s web until just now….”
“What are you talking about?! You bought this box earlier!”
The merchant shouted triumphantly.
Seeing that, the boy burst into frustration, and Blanche snapped his fingers.
He remembered where he had seen him.
“You’re Arian, aren’t you?”
“Do you know him?”
“He’s a lower-class kid who went with us on the monster hunt last time. And you know that, right? The kid who was trying to get Arachne’s web.”
“Ah, that?”
It was when he went to apply for the monster hunting class before.
One of the lower-class students had posted a party recruitment notice, saying he wanted to subjugate Arachne.
“He’s that kid.”
“I see. Okay. Anyway, let’s check it out.”
Ian pointed to the bottom of the stall.
“Let’s look under there.”
“No… well… I am an honest merchant doing business with the permission of the Adventurer’s Guild and the academy!”
“Yeah, I know. So let’s just check it out.”
“D, doubting me is doubting the Adventurer’s Guild!”
“What nonsense. We’re just asking to check. And do you have the Adventurer’s Guild Master behind you or something?”
“…It’s not like that.”
As the merchant became intimidated, burly men walked over.
They surrounded the area, showing a fairly polite attitude.
“Student, is it okay for you to interfere with other people’s business like this? You should know better. And we are from the Adventurer’s Guild….”
“Move.”
As Ian’s voice lowered, one of the burly men, noticing his mood, was embarrassed.
“Student, we’re not just trying to end this. We’re working with the Adventurer’s Guild, you know? That would be better for the academy and for you.”
The burly man took out a money pouch from his pocket and held it out.
Ian, seeing the pouch with quite a bit of silver in it.
-Thwack!!
Kicked him in the shin and then strongly struck his lowered chin.
After simply knocking him out, Ian scoffed at the flustered merchant and burly men.
“What if I don’t want to?”
“This crazy… we belong to the Adventurer’s Guild!!”
The merchant shouted, but Ian ignored him.
Was he even someone who would care about that in the first place?
The merchant and burly men gritted their teeth at Ian’s scoff.
“Damn it! I can’t forgive you, even for the prestige of the Adventurer’s Guild!!”
“What’s going on?”
Graegin ran over, hearing the commotion.
He came with Park Bare, and asked, looking at them both.
As Blanche explained the situation, both of them grabbed their weapons without a word.
“Trying to bribe me is also suspicious… I can’t just let it go. Here.”
Ian drew his sword.
“I’m going to enforce it.”
He immediately jumped onto the stall and kicked the merchant.
Seeing that, the burly men drew their weapons.
As burly men ran from other places, Graegin activated his magic.
“Bind!”
As those who were running were bound by the magic rope, Park Bare swung his mace.
“Ugh! Ugh!!”
“Our representative gave the order to enforce it!! You should stay still!!”
“Ugh! S, student is beating people!! It’s a challenge to the Adventurer’s Guild!!”
“It’s not a challenge to the Adventurer’s Guild, it’s beating criminals who are disobeying orders.”
Those caught in Bind were beaten by Park Bare and Blanche, and the remaining burly men fell to Ian.
After simply sorting out the situation, Ian opened the bottom of the stall.
There were plenty of boxes similar to those on the stall.
“The other things there seem fake too.”
The other items prepared on the stall were also fakes that were almost identical to the real ones.
After confirming that, he could see how the scam was carried out.
When someone comes to buy something, those nearby come forward to surround them, making it difficult to know what they bought.
Afterwards, if they complain, they insist that you originally bought something else.
Ian opened the box containing Arachne’s web.
Certainly, there was Arachne’s web slightly soaked in red Perrin solution.
“Call the guards.”
‘Who gave this guy permission?’
One of the instructors who was with Hastings during Rakid’s incident.
Ian, recalling him, smirked and grabbed the hair of the frightened merchant.
‘Even if I try to catch them with this, it won’t be a big attack, right?’
Then that’s enough.
He could deal with them in other ways.
Right now, he had to solve the problem in front of him first.
“You know that if you get caught scamming, your hands will be chopped off, right?”
“P, pl, please forgive me….”
Ian immediately struck his chin and knocked him out, then pointed to the stall.
“Park Bare, send that stall to the guards as evidence.”
As he picked up the fallen merchant, Kirke immediately reported.
‘I should go there.’
“Wow, how can there be so many fakes?”
As Graegin checked inside the stall and clicked his tongue, Ian instructed him.
“Tell the guards to check if there are any victims. And find out if there are any people related to these guys. They wouldn’t have done it alone.”
“Okay.”
After a while, as the guards who ran over tied up the scammers, Ian tapped the box containing Arachne’s web.
“You bought this?”
“Yeees…….”
“Here, take it.”
“Thank you!! Student Ian!”
He seemed quite happy.
As Arian hugged the box and smiled brightly, Blanche grinned.
“You wanted to get Arachne’s web so badly, and you finally got it?”
“Yes, really. I was lucky.”
He opened the box several times and smiled.
“Thank you so much! Student Blanche! Student Ian!”
“I’m okay, but how do you know him?”
“Is there any lower-class student who doesn’t know Student Ian?”
Well, that’s true.
Ian was almost a legend to the lower-class students.
Blanche chuckled and patted Ian on the back.
“You must be happy to be so popular?”
“I wish I could get some holy relics based on that popularity. Hey, clean up. We have to continue patrolling.”
